Electromagnetic Torque Tweezers: A Versatile Approach for Measurement of Single-Molecule Twist and Torque

Nano Letters, 2012
The well-established single-molecule force-spectroscopy techniques have recently been complemented by methods that can measure torque and twist directly, notably magnetic torque tweezers and the optical torque wrench. A limitation of the current torque measurement schemes is the intrinsic coupling between the force and torque degrees of freedom.

Electromagnetic Torque Analysis for All-Harmonic-Torque Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2018
This paper proposed a new type of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) called all-harmonic-torque PMSM (AHT-PMSM) to enhance the electromagnetic torque by using all harmonics of the magnetomotive force. The stator windings structure, drive converter configurations, and control model of the AHT-PMSM are illustrated.

Torque Control Method of an Electromagnetic Spherical Motor Using Torque Map

IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, 2016
This paper describes a new method for driving electromagnetic type spherical motors that has arranged permanent magnets on a rotor and arranged electromagnets on a stator. The most significant feature of this method is, in principle, applicable to any permanent magnets arrangement and electromagnets arrangement, and it can generate torque to any ...

Calibration of a torque measuring device using an electromagnetic force torque standard machine

Measurement: Journal of the International Measurement Confederation, 2019
Abstract To realize a microtorque standard, we have been investigating the principle of torque generation with an electromagnetic force by referring to the Kibble balance method used for the redefinition of the kilogram in the International System of Units (SI). In a previous study, we developed an electromagnetic force torque standard machine (EMTSM)

Electromagnetic Torque of Reluctance Magnetic Gear

2018 XIV International Scientific-Technical Conference on Actual Problems of Electronics Instrument Engineering (APEIE), 2018
The paper deals with the studying of the torque producing mechanisms in reluctance type magnetic gear. The equation of magnetic conductivity and air-gap flux density are presented in the context of the electrical machines theory. The relationships for the reduction ratio and torque are obtained.

An electromagnetic variable-ratio torque convertor

Proceedings of the IEE Part A: Power Engineering, 1959
The torque convertor differs radically from any other type known to be in commercial use. It depends for its operation upon the phenomenon exemplified in Faraday's disc and constitutes, theoretically, an ‘infinitely variable’ gear whose ratio can be varied over a wide range. This paper is limited to a brief description of the basic principles and some ...

Optical multipolar torque in structured electromagnetic fields: On helicity gradient torque, quadrupolar torque, and spin of the field gradient

Physical Review B, 2022
Structured light mechanically interacts with matter via optical forces and torques. Optical torque is traditionally calculated via the flux of total angular momentum (AM) into a volume enclosing an object. In the work published in [Phys. Rev. A 92, 043843 (2015)1050-294710.1103/PhysRevA.92.043843], a powerful method was suggested to calculate the ...

A torque-controllable electromagnetic multiple-disc brake

Tribology International, 1989
Abstract This paper describes a new type of electromagnetic multiple-disc brake for controlling braking torque. The brake consists of a rare-earth permanent magnet, an electromagnet and multiple friction discs. The friction torque is controlled by the electric current in a coil of the electromagnet.

Electromagnetic brake with controllable torque

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, Part II: Applications and Industry, 1961
MANY LARGE materials handling machines and processing machines require smooth, accurate stopping. In the past, accurate stopping has usually been accomplished by the use of hydraulic brakes. Recently, an electromagnetic brake has been developed to perform the same functions and to overcome some disadvantages of hydraulic brakes, such as the need for ...

Spin-Torque Oscillator in an Electromagnet Package

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2012
Spin-torque oscillators (STO) hold promise for multi-octave frequency operation at very high frequencies and modulation speeds. STO operation is typically demonstrated using large electromagnets and probe stations, and has so far not been packaged with a portable form factor. For STOs to be utilized in real applications, a smaller packaging solution is
