Investigations of the key mechanism of Carbon-Nanotube Actuators and their dependencies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Future adaptable applications require electro-mechanical actuators with a high weight-related en-ergy. Among modern multi-functional materials carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have some special char-acteristics which give them the potential to solve this demand ...

Revealing the Giant Electromechanical Effects in Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia Single Crystal. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
Giant electromechanical responses are uncovered in yttria‐stabilized zirconia single crystal (SC‐YSZ), exhibiting pronounced orientation dependence. The giant electrostriction and piezoelectricity are directly correlated with the long‐range transport kinetics of oxygen vacancies.

Tunable Electromechanical Liquid Crystal Elastomer Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, 2020
Liquid crystal elastomers (LCE) are soft materials which anisotropically shape morph in response to external stimuli. Herein, a method to produce large‐area carbon nanotube–LCE nanocomposite films with exceptional electrostrictive properties is examined.

A pneumatic random-access memory for controlling soft robots.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Pneumatically-actuated soft robots have advantages over traditional rigid robots in many applications. In particular, their flexible bodies and gentle air-powered movements make them more suitable for use around humans and other objects that could be ...

Theoretical analysis of dynamic property for piezoelectric cantilever triple-layer benders with large piezoelectric and electromechanical coupling coefficients [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Dielectrics, 2016
Ferroelectric single crystals, such as PZN-PT, provide novel prospects in piezoelectric bending devices such as actuators, sensors or energy harvesters because of their extraordinarily large piezoelectric coefficients.

Control of an electromechanical actuator for camless engines [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2003 American Control Conference, 2003., 2004
This paper presents a gray box approach for identifying physical parameters of an electromechanical actuator based on frequency response data. A feedforward and linear-quadratic regulator feedback controller was developed to control the EMCV actuator for soft seating.

Conceptual Design of Electromechanical Actuation Systems for Large-Sized Directional Control Valves

open access: yesActuators, 2021
Increasing performance in modern hydraulics is achieved by a close investigation of possible enhancements of its components. Prior research has pointed out that electromechanical actuators can form suitable alternatives to hydraulically piloted control ...
