Electromechanical impedance modeling of active material systems

An active material system may be generalized as an electro-mechanical network because of the incorporation of the actuators (electrically driven) and sensors (that convert mechanical energy into electrical energy). This paper summarizes most of our research in the area of the electro- mechanical impedance (EMI) modeling of active material systems.

Modeling the electromechanical impedance technique for the assessment of dental implant stability

We simulated the electromechanical impedance (EMI) technique to assess the stability of dental implants. The technique consists of bonding a piezoelectric transducer to the element to be monitored. When subjected to an electric field, the transducer induces structural excitations which, in turn, affect the transducer's electrical admittance.

Variable impedance due to electromechanical coupling in electroactive polymer actuators

This paper presents a variable impedance suspension system based on electroactive polymer (EAP) actuators, leveraging their inherent compliance and damping, light weight, and low power requirements. We describe the manufacturing process used to create a small, lightweight EAP suspension and a novel control circuit used to vary its properties.

Monitoring the wear of turning tools with the electromechanical impedance technique

In this study, Inconel 718 and Ti6Al4V alloys were machined using ceramic (WG 300), and carbide (G20M Grade) inserts, respectively. The focused application was grooving. The tool wear was observed with traditional methods and with a new approach, the electromechanical impedance (EMI) technique.

Extracting local resonances using the electromechanical impedance method

Local resonances, formed by zero-group velocity (ZGV) and cutoff frequency points, have been extensively studied using impulse induced by pulsed lasers and impacts. In this work, we demonstrated the effectiveness of the electromechanical impedance (EMI) technique in extracting ZGV and cutoff frequency resonance in a rectangular aluminum bar.
