Three-Dimensional Electromechanical Impedance Model. I: Formulation of Directional Sum Impedance

Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2007
Piezoceramic transducers (PZTs) are extensively used in vibration and noise control, and damage detection of various engineering structures. In the last decade, its application has been extended to include their interactions with the host structure in electromechanical impedance models.

Multichannel Electromechanical Impedance Structural Diagnostics in Plate Specimens

Volume 5: Dynamics, Vibration, and Control, 2022
Abstract Structural health monitoring has become increasingly important in order to save costs and improve the safety of structures. One of the methods of monitoring the health of structures is the use of thin piezoelectric wafer active sensors to measure the electromechanical impedance of the integrated structure/sensor system.

Estimation of fatigue life using electromechanical impedance technique

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
Fatigue induced damage is often progressive and gradual in nature. Structures subjected to large number of fatigue load cycles will encounter the process of progressive crack initiation, propagation and finally fracture. Monitoring of structural health, especially for the critical components, is therefore essential for early detection of potential ...

CURING MONITORING OF COMPOSITE PATCH USING ELECTROMECHANICAL IMPEDANCE

Proceedings of the 14th International Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring, 2023
The repair technology of surface-bonded composite patches has garnered significant attention in the engineering field. The quality of the repair is directly impacted by the curing degree of the patch. Thus, monitoring the curing process of the patches is necessary.

Extracting local resonances using the electromechanical impedance method

ASNT Research Symposium 2023 Proceedings, 2023
Local resonances, formed by zero-group velocity (ZGV) and cutoff frequency points, have been extensively studied using impulse induced by pulsed lasers and impacts. In this work, we demonstrated the effectiveness of the electromechanical impedance (EMI) technique in extracting ZGV and cutoff frequency resonance in a rectangular aluminum bar.

Electromechanical impedance: Analogs and duality

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, Part I: Communication and Electronics, 1959
It is felt that 4-terminal network theory is potentially of great value in the analysis of problems in the non-electrical realm and problems which are only partially electrical. In attempting to apply 2-port theory however,1,2 some perplexing difficulties arise.

Quantitative Corrosion Monitoring Using Wireless Electromechanical Impedance Measurements

Research in Nondestructive Evaluation, 2010
This article presents an experimental study for wireless monitoring of corrosion damage that might frequently occur in metallic structures. A simple beam structure made from an aluminum alloy was selected for corrosion-monitoring testing and a small lead-zirconate-titanate (PZT) patch-type sensor was surface-mounted to the structure.

Electromechanical impedance method to assess dental implant stability

Smart Materials and Structures, 2012
The stability of a dental implant is a prerequisite for supporting a load-bearing prosthesis and establishment of a functional bone?implant system. Reliable and noninvasive methods able to assess the bone interface of dental and orthopedic implants (osseointegration) are increasingly demanded for clinical diagnosis and direct prognosis.

Improved Electromechanical Transduction for PiezoMUMPS HBAR Impedance Sensors

2020 Joint Conference of the IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium and International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics (IFCS-ISAF), 2020
This study discloses how the distribution of the effective electromechanical coupling in the modes of our HBAR ultrasonic sensors at GHz range is significantly affected by the configuration of layers and materials used for its manufacture. Using analytical models from the literature supported by FEM simulations, frequency bands with greater coupling ...
