Electromechanical Anisotropy at the Ferroelectric to Relaxor Transition of (Bi0.5Na0.5)0.94Ba0.06TiO3 Ceramics from the Thermal Evolution of Resonance Curves

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
(Bi0.5Na0.5)0.94Ba0.06TiO3 dense ceramics were obtained from autocombustion sol-gel synthesized nanopowders and sintered at 1050 °C for 1–2 h for the study of the electromechanical anisotropy. Measurement of the complex impedance spectrum was carried out

Electromechanical Impedance Sensor for In Vivo Monitoring the Body Reaction to Implants

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Surgery, 2004
A novel sensor for in situ monitoring of the body reaction to implants has been developed. A piezoelectric wafer active sensor was adapted for biomedical applications (bio-PWAS). A number of bio-PWAS sensors have been implanted in rats and left in place up to 64 days. The bio-PWAS were able to oscillate in several resonance modes, radial-wise (in-plane)

Predictive modeling of electromechanical impedance spectroscopy for composite materials [PDF]

open access: yesStructural Health Monitoring, 2012
The advancement of composite materials in aircraft structures has led to an increased need for effective structural health monitoring technologies that are able to detect and assess damage present in composite structures. The study presented in this article is interested in understanding self-sensing piezoelectric wafer sensors to conduct ...

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...

Crosstalk of cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts in co-cultures [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Biology, 2015
Electromechanical function of cardiac muscle depends critically on the crosstalk of myocytes with non-myocytes. Upon cardiac fibrosis, fibroblasts translocate into infarcted necrotic tissue and alter their communication capabilities.

Hybrid Metal–Carbon Ink for Printed Stretchable Temperature Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We prepare conductive inks for temperature sensing with silver flakes and carbon or graphite flakes in a silicone elastomer matrix. Silver dominates the temperature‐dependent conductivity, while the carbon filler network ensures the stability of the conductive pathways and retains function under strain.

Impact of MgO Additions on the Oxidation Resistance and Compression Behavior of Vanadium Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An increase in oxidation resistance at 600 °C is achieved for alloys containing more than 2.5 wt.% MgO. It has been established that, along with V2O5, MgO6V2, and Mg2O7V2 are formed, which are presumed to enhance oxidative stability. Furthermore, the possible transformation of Mg‐vanadates through reaction with CO2, which presumably occurs in this ...
