Impedometric monitoring of the behavior of the supported liquid membrane in electromembrane extraction systems: An insight into the origin of optimized experimental parameters

Analytica Chimica Acta, 2016
Electromembrane extraction (EME) was carried out using a novel instrumentation capable of impedometric monitoring of the system during the extraction. This instrumentation involves a classical two-electrode assembly fed by two time-resolved potential functions, the first for the extraction of analyte and the second for obtaining the impedance ...

Interfacially driven ionic transport in the electromembrane systems under influence of small excess of hydrostatic pressure

Journal of Membrane Science, 2000
Abstract We continue a series of experiments especially designed to demonstrate the action of hydrostatic pressure on the selectivity of the cation-exchange membranes. The experimental results are explained qualitatively by the change of the interfacial transport of the ions owing to local water flows under the hydrostatic pressure action. The values

Quantitative analysis of clonidine and ephedrine by a microfluidic system: On-chip electromembrane extraction followed by high performance liquid chromatography

Journal of Chromatography B, 2017
In this work, a microfluidic device was developed for on-chip electromembrane extraction of trace amounts of ephedrine (EPH) and clonidine (CLO) in human urine and plasma samples followed by HPLC-UV analysis. Two polymethylmethacrylate plates were used as substrates and a microchannel was carved in each plate. The microchannel channel on the underneath

Interfacial potential difference in electromembrane systems with MA-41 anion-exchange membranes and alkaline solutions of glycine

Russian Journal of Electrochemistry, 2007
A method for estimating the interfacial potential difference in electromembrane systems with alkaline solutions of amino acids is developed. Systems with MA-41 anion-exchange membranes and aqueous sodium hydroxide solutions with glycine are investigated.

The effect of electric field geometry on the performance of electromembrane extraction systems: Footprints of a third driving force along with migration and diffusion

Analytica Chimica Acta, 2015
The distribution of electric field vectors was first calculated for electromembrane extraction (EME) systems in classical and cylindrical electrode geometries. The results showed that supported liquid membrane (SLM) has a general field amplifying effect due to its lower dielectric constant in comparison with aqueous donor/acceptor solutions.

Electronic simulation of the supported liquid membrane in electromembrane extraction systems: Improvement of the extraction by precise periodical reversing of the field polarity

Analytica Chimica Acta, 2014
In order to understand the limitations of electromebrane extraction procedure better, a simple equivalent circuit has been proposed for a supported liquid membrane consisting of a resistor and a low leakage capacitor in series. To verify the equivalent circuit, it was subjected to a simulated periodical polarity changing potential and the resulting ...

Mass Transfer of Salt Ions in an Electromembrane System with Violated Electroneutrality in the Diffusion Layer: The Effect of a Heterolytic Dissociation of Water

Russian Journal of Electrochemistry, 2002
The effect of water dissociation on the mass transfer of salt ions is studied with allowance for the space charge. The Kharkats problem, which considers exaltation of the limiting diffusion current, and the Rubinstein problem, which accounts for violation of the electroneutrality condition in a membrane system, are generalized.

Energy efficiency enhancement of electromembrane desalination systems by local flow redistribution optimized for the asymmetry of cation/anion diffusivity

Journal of Membrane Science, 2017
Abstract In an electrochemical system, ion transport near ion exchange membranes or electrodes induces inevitable concentration polarization ( i.e. , formation of diffusion boundaries), which impedes the mass transport and worsens the energy efficiency.
