Double Excitation of Helium by Electronic Impact
Physical Review Letters, 1963The cross section for electron impact excitation of He to the doubly excited (2p)/sup 2/ /sup 3/P/sub 3/ state was calculated. This state is the lowest lying, doubly excited state that is stable to autoionization. The differential cross sectlon results indicate that the scattered beam has an intensity maximunm at right angles to the incident beam.

The Double Excitation of Helium by Electron Impact
Mathematical Proceedings of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, 1935The probability of excitation of helium by electron impact to the more important doubly excited levels is calculated, and comparison made with the experimental results of Priestley and Whiddington who have observed two lines due to double excitation. The calculated relative intensities and angular distributions are found to be in qualitative agreement ...

The case study part of this book begins in Sect. 7.1 with the presentation of a few examples where either unpolarized or spin-polarized electron beams are used to excite unpolarized atoms. Only the emitted light and its polarization, but not the scattered electrons, are observed.

Electron-impact excitation of oxygenlike krypton
Physical Review A, 1986Electron-impact excitation cross sections have been calculated for transitions from the ground state 2s/sup 2/2p/sup 4/ /sup 3/P to the n = 2 and n = 3 excited states of oxygenlike krypton. Configuration-interaction-type wave functions were employed, and the cross sections were calculated in a close-coupling approximation for impact energies ranging ...

Electron-impact excitation of atomic copper
Physical Review A, 1986Cross sections are calculated for excitation of Cu for elastic scattering of electrons from the 4s ground state and for excitation to excited states 3d/sup 9/4s/sup 2/, 4p, and 4d. A three-state close-coupling approximation is used for the energy range 3.8 < E < 10 eV, and a four-state one for 6 < E < 100 eV.

Electron-impact excitation of molecular ions
Physical Review A, 1989A simple expression is derived that relates the rate coefficient for dipole-allowed electron-impact excitation of a molecular ion in the Coulomb-Born approximation to the Einstein /ital A/ coefficient for the corresponding radiative decay. Results are given for several molecular ions of astrophysical interest.

Electron-impact excitation of atomic oxygen
Physical Review A, 1988A close-coupling approximation is employed to theoretically investigate the excitation of the 3s3S0 and 3p3P states of atomic oxygen for electron impact energies ranging from 13.87-100 eV. The target states included in the expansion of the total wave function are modeled by accurate configuration-interaction wave functions.

Publisher Summary This chapter describes some general programs developed to investigate collisions of electrons with atoms and ions of arbitrary complexity in LS-coupling. The integro-differential equations are converted to a set of linear algebraic ones and the program is called IMPACT.

Electron-impact excitation of heliumlike titanium
Physical Review A, 1995We report theoretical close-coupling calculations for electron-impact excitation cross sections of He-like Ti XXI ions using the R-matrix method, including relativistic and radiation damping effects. The cross sections are in good agreement with experimental measurements from the electron-beam ion trap [Chantrenne et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 69, 265 (1992)

Electron-impact excitation of Ti x
Physical Review A, 1987The absolute intensities of Ti X spectral lines emitted from a theta-pinch plasma are measured with a 2.2-m grazing-incidence monochromator which is calibrated in situ by using the branching-ratio technique. An electron temperature of 50 eV and an electron density of 2.2 x 10/sup 16/ cm/sup -3/ of the plasma are determined from the laser scattering ...
