Three-dimensional analysis of the surface mode supported in \v{C}erenkov and Smith-Purcell free-electron lasers

open access: yes, 2016
In \v{C}erenkov and Smith-Purcell free-electron lasers (FELs), a resonant interaction between the electron beam and the co-propagating surface mode can produce copious amount of coherent terahertz (THz) radiation.

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...

Homogenization behavior of IN 718 superalloy prepared by electron beam layered solidification technology

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2021
The homogenization behavior of IN 718 superalloy prepared by electron beam layered solidification has been investigated at 1150 °C. The set temperature was accurately corrected as 1149 °C by a compound method.

Early out-of-equilibrium beam-plasma evolution

open access: yes, 2006
We solve analytically the out-of-equilibrium initial stage that follows the injection of a radially finite electron beam into a plasma at rest and test it against particle-in-cell simulations.

Assembling Di- and Multiatomic Si Clusters in Graphene via Electron Beam Manipulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We demonstrate assembly of di-, tri- and tetrameric Si clusters on the graphene surface using sub-atomically focused electron beam of a scanning transmission electron microscope.

Convergent-beam electron diffraction

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section A Foundations of Crystallography, 1989
Symmetry determination of three-dimensional (usual) crystals, four-dimensional (one-dimensionally incommensurate) crystals and five- and six-dimensional crystals (quasicrystals) by convergent-beam electron diffraction is described and demonstrated using real materials.

Process‐Informed Analysis of As‐Built Metal Additive Surface Features

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article introduces a novel method for feature‐based surface texture characterisation directly incorporating manufacturing variables into the feature extraction workflow. This marks a major step towards identifying process‐specific surface properties and their influence on part function and hence a holistic understanding of process–structure ...

Equilibrium ion distribution in the presence of clearing electrodes and its influence on electron dynamics

open access: yes, 2007
Here we compute the ion distribution produced by an electron beam when ion-clearing electrodes are installed. This ion density is established as an equilibrium between gas ionization and ion clearing.
