Degradation of hexachlorobenzene by electron beam irradiation
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2007Hexachlorobenzene removal efficiencies in different solvents by electron beam irradiation were investigated. Several factors that might affect the removal efficiencies were further examined. At 10 kGy, HCB degradation value was 85.8% in the solvent of acetone:water mixture (20:80, v/v), while at the same dose, the reduction value of 42.6% was achieved ...

Electron beam irradiation of dental composites
Dental Materials, 2005Electron beam irradiation can be used to influence the mechanical properties of polymers. It was the aim of this study to investigate whether dental composites can benefit from irradiation in order to achieve increased fracture toughness, work of fracture, hardness or less wear. Two hundred rectangular specimens of five veneering composites were ...

Electron Beam Irradiation for Structuring of Molecular Assemblies
IEEE Transactions on Nanobioscience, 2004Nontraditional applications of electron beam irradiation for patterning of molecular assemblies are considered. The electron beam can have the following effects on molecular layers: destruction of molecular structure under e-beam irradiation with a successive formation of new molecular system when the irradiation is stopped; variation of the properties

Electron beam irradiation of cellulose
Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2009Abstract Using a 90 kW, 3 MeV Dynamitron™, the molecular weight of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was reduced from 82,000 to 5000 Da with a dose of 100 kGy. The relative crystallinity of the MCC was reduced from 87% to 45% with a dose of 1000 kGy. The available surface area, an indication on how well cellulose will react with chemical agents, was ...
