Productivity‐Driven Optimization of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Parameters for IN718 Superalloy: Process Control, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates how optimizing laser power, scanning speed, and hatching distance in laser powder bed fusion can boost the productivity of Inconel 718 manufacturing by up to 29% while maintaining mechanical integrity. The work delivers a validated process window and cost–time analysis, offering industry‐ready guidelines for efficient additive ...

Gas desorption and electron emission from 1 MeV potassium ion bombardment of stainless steel

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2004
Gas desorption and electron emission coefficients were measured for 1 MeV potassium ions incident on stainless steel at grazing angles (between 80° and 88° from normal incidence) using a new gas-electron source diagnostic (GESD).

Focused ion beam–scanning electron microscope examination of high burn-up UO2 in the center of a pellet

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2018
Focused ion beam–scanning electron microscope and electron backscattered diffraction examinations were conducted in the center of a 73 GWd/tU UO2 fuel. They showed the formation of subdomains within the initial grains.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Speeding up fluid models for gas discharges by implicit treatment of the electron energy source term

open access: yes, 2000
Numerical fluid models are widely used in gas discharge physics. A typical discharge model comprises continuity equations and drift–diffusion equations for reactive particle species, a balance equation for the electron energy, and Poisson's equation for ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Effect of neutral gas temperature on low-pressure RF argon discharges: A fluid simulation [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Advances
Based on plasma fluid theory, using the drift-diffusion approximation, a one-dimensional fluid model is established for the plasmas in low-pressure RF argon discharge between parallel-plate electrodes.

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.
