Irradiation of Mucopolysaccharides with Ultraviolet Light and Electrons

Radiation Research, 1959
The effect of ultraviolet light and electrons on aqueous solutions of hyaluronic acid, hyaluron sulfuric acid, and heparin was investigated. It was found that irradiation with ultraviolet light causes a decrease in the molecular weight and length of hyaluronic acid prepared from the bovine vitreous body.

Degradation of hexachlorobenzene by electron beam irradiation

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2007
Hexachlorobenzene removal efficiencies in different solvents by electron beam irradiation were investigated. Several factors that might affect the removal efficiencies were further examined. At 10 kGy, HCB degradation value was 85.8% in the solvent of acetone:water mixture (20:80, v/v), while at the same dose, the reduction value of 42.6% was achieved ...

Electron Spin Resonance of Irradiated DNA

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1963
The electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra of free radicals formed in-the sodium salt of desoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) by 1-Mev electrons were examined. Dry samples were irradiated at approximates 200°K and examined at 77°K at microwave power levels below approximates 0.1 mw. At levels below 1 Mrad only a single, rather broad absorption line was seen. At

Gamma and electron irradiation

Physics Bulletin, 1969
The UK Panel on Gamma and Electron Irradiation was set up in 1963 by the coming together of industrial organizations, the UK Atomic Energy Authority, the Ministry of Health and interested individuals mainly from the universities. Originally its purposes were connected with the promotion of fundamental and applied research into the use of radiation for ...

Alteration of Collagen Structure by Irradiation with Electrons

Nature, 1950
IN endeavouring to induce shrinkage in collagen by irradiation with electrons, structural alterations in the material were determined from the low-angle X-ray diffraction patterns of samples which had been exposed in the beam of an electron accelerator.

Electron beam irradiation of dental composites

Dental Materials, 2005
Electron beam irradiation can be used to influence the mechanical properties of polymers. It was the aim of this study to investigate whether dental composites can benefit from irradiation in order to achieve increased fracture toughness, work of fracture, hardness or less wear. Two hundred rectangular specimens of five veneering composites were ...

Luminescence from electron-irradiated sapphire

Physical Review B, 1993
Point defects have been produced by electron irradiation in single-crystal \ensuremath{\alpha}-${\mathrm{Al}}_{2}$${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ from two different sources. Time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy has been used to study emission spectra and atomic-displacement thresholds for the defects.

Electron paramagnetic resonance of electron-irradiated GaP

Physical Review B, 1981
An electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) study of electron-irradiated GaP is presented with emphasis on the properties of the isolated gallium vacancy which can be deduced from its EPR. Further confirmation of the assignment of this spectrum to the vacancy is presented with additional discussion of defect structure. Details of the optical excitation of

Electron trapping in electron-beam irradiated SiO2

Journal of Applied Physics, 1978
In addition to the well-known positive space charge, electron irradiation of MOS capacitors with 25-keV electrons is shown to introduce additional uncharged electron traps into the oxide layer. These traps persist after most of the positively charged defects have been removed by the usual low-temperature (? °C) anneals. Their presence after this anneal

Impact of electron irradiation on electron holographic potentiometry

Applied Physics Letters, 2014
While electron holography in the transmission electron microscope offers the possibility to measure maps of the electrostatic potential of semiconductors down to nanometer dimensions, these measurements are known to underestimate the absolute value of the potential, especially in GaN.
