EMCCDs for space applications

open access: yes, 2006
This paper describes a qualification programme for Electron-Multiplication Charge Coupled Devices (EMCCDs) for use in space applications. While the presented results are generally applicable, the programme was carried out in the context of CCD ...

Composition‐Tuned Enhancement of the Anomalous Nernst Effect in FeCo–Pt Thin Films on Rigid and Flexible Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.

On the Interactions of Point Defects, Dopants and Light Element Impurities in Silicon as Stimulated by 200 kV Electron Irradiation.

open access: yes, 2005
The purpose of this research has been the investigation of atomic manipulation in silicon. It has been demonstrated that bulk vacancies and interstitials are created and spatially separated one Frenkel pair at a time during 200 kV electron irradiation ...

Bending of metal-filled carbon nanotube under electron beam irradiation

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2012
Electron beam irradiation induced, bending of Iron filled, multiwalled carbon nanotubes is reported. Bending of both the carbon nanotube and the Iron contained within the core was achieved using two approaches with the aid of a high resolution electron ...

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

Shrinkage of nanocavities in silicon during electron beam irradiation

open access: yes, 2006
An internal shrinkage of nanocavity in silicon was in situ observed under irradiation of energetic electron on electron transmission microscopy. Because there is no addition of any external materials to cavity site, a predicted nanosize effect on the ...

Localized ultraviolet laser microbeam irradiation of early Drosophila embryos: Fate maps based on location and frequency of adult defects [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Drosophila embryos were locally irradiated with a 257-nm laser microbeam during blastoderm and germ band stages. Depending on stage and beam diameter (10–30 μm), from 0 to 45 nuclei were exposed to the uv radiation.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Formation of nanocrystalline structure during electron irradiation induced crystallization in amorphous Fe–Zr–B alloys

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2002
Effect of electron irradiation on the crystallization and phase stability of Fe88Zr9B3 and Fe71Zr9B20 amorphous alloys was examined. Electron irradiation at an accelerated voltage of 2000 kV was performed at room temperature.
