Observations of inverted-V electron precipitation
Space Science Reviews, 1982The energy and pitch angle distributions of inverted-V electron precipitation fluxes predominantly determined from Atmosphere Explorer satellite observations are shown to be in general agreement with acceleration by a parallel electrostatic potential. The characteristics of secondary electrons are examined, and the effects of beam plasma instabilities ...

Electron precipitation in the radiation belts
Journal of Geophysical Research, 1968Fluxes and energy spectra are presented for electrons above an energy of ∼0.4 Mev on a worldwide basis over the range of L values 1.6–7, as measured in the fall of 1963 on a low-altitude polar-orbiting satellite. The data have been subjected to a systematic analysis in terms of the longitude variations in intensity and spectral shape.

Transmission electron microscopy characterization of precipitates
Ultramicroscopy, 1989Abstract This paper reviews the methods and principles underlying the structural and morphological characterization of precipitates by TEM. Precipitate contrast mechanisms are reduced to the better-known contrast behavior of crystal defects such as dislocation loops, dipoles and stacking faults.

Angular Distributions of Precipitating Electrons
1972For auroral electrons the angular distribution within the loss cone is probably the most sensitive indicator of the mechanism which causes the precipitation. However, in the energy range of a few keV, which generally contains most of the auroral electron flux, only very limited results have been reported to date.

Measurements of ambient electron densities have been made by the differential absorption experiment, on a number of aurorally disturbed nights in 1971. The measured values of the intensity of the green line (5577 Å) emission, and of the ambient electron densities, are then compared with theoretical estimates of these two variables.

Stratospheric evidence of relativistic electron precipitation
Planetary and Space Science, 1992The hypothesis of Thorne (1977, 1980) and Baker et al. (1986, 1987) that the precipitation of energetic electrons is modifying the high-latitude ozone distribution in the Southern Hemisphere is tested by comparing electron density data from a ground-based partial reflection sounder with simultaneous satellite data on ozone mixing ratios taken at the 40
