Magnetic properties of single nanomagnets: EMCD on FePt nanoparticles

open access: yes, 2016
Energy-loss magnetic chiral dichroism (EMCD) allows for the quantification of magnetic properties of materials at the nanometer scale. It is shown that with the support of simulations that help to identify the optimal conditions for a successful ...

Eco‐Friendly Aqueous Polymeric Binders for High‐Performance Graphite Anodes: Structure–Property Insights for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVdF) is commonly used as a binder material in the preparation of anode or cathode electrode slurries for commercial Li‐ion batteries (LIBs). High‐cost PVdF binder generally requires the use of toxic and environmentally unfriendly N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) as a solvent for dissolution.

Mandible composition and properties in two selected praying mantises (Insecta, Mantodea)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Insects process their food with their cuticle‐based mouthparts. These feeding structures reflect their diversity and can, in some cases, showcase adaptations in material composition, mechanical properties, and shape to suit their specific dietary preferences.

Grain Boundary Analysis of the Garnet-like Oxides Li7+X-YLa3-XAXZr2-YNbYO12 (A = Sr or Ca)

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2016
Garnet-like oxides having the formula Li7+X-YLa3-XAXZr2-YNbYO12 (A = Sr or Ca) were synthesized using a solid-state reaction and their bulk and grain boundary resistivities were assessed by AC impedance measurements.

Going from Pt to PGM‐free Catalysts: Effects of Ink Compositions on PEM Water Electrolysis

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 26, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
Optimisation of cathode ink formulations regarding the ratio between catalyst, carbon and binder results in a boost in PEM water electrolysis performance. The optimisation can be transferred from pentlandites to platinum and selenide catalysts, wherein the metal chalcogenides show a stronger performance enhancement.

Microanalytical identification of barium sulphate crystals in statoliths of Chara Rhizoids [PDF]

open access: yes
In contrast to higher plants, Chara rhizoids contain statolith vacuoles filled with biocrystallites of BaS04 in the form of rods composed of globular subunits ca. 7 nm in diameter. The revelation of the crystallites under electron microscopy is dependent
