Power electronic transformers for utility applications
Conference Record of the 2000 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. Thirty-Fifth IAS Annual Meeting and World Conference on Industrial Applications of Electrical Energy (Cat. No.00CH37129), 2002The concept of realizing a small size "solid-state" transformer has been discussed for some time. A fairly straightforward approach to accomplish size reduction in a transformer feeding a conventional rectifier-inverter system is to introduce an isolated DC-DC converter in the DC link, isolation being provided by a high frequency transformer.

Application of power electronics to the distribution transformer
APEC 2000. Fifteenth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (Cat. No.00CH37058), 2002This paper describes the design and prototype construction of a novel solid state transformer. Replacing distribution transformers with solid state devices provides control over the waveshapes and output voltage and can therefore mitigate many power quality problems.

An Advanced Distributed Power Supply for Power Electronic Transformers
IECON 2007 - 33rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2007The idea of power electronic transformer (PET), which work with solid-state switches, have been considered noticeably recently. Every power electronic transformer has several parts which each of them needs its own reliable supply voltage. So the appropriate performance of a PET depends on the existence of various proper supply voltages. The distributed

Power electronic transformer for dc power distribution network
2014 International Power Electronics and Application Conference and Exposition, 2014In this paper, a novel power electronic transformer (PET) structure for dc power distribution system is proposed. The proposed converter can achieve very high voltage conversion ratio with high frequency isolation and bidirectional energy flow, thus it can be used as the interface equipment of high voltage and low voltage dc power grid.

Large transformers for power electronic loads
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1997The transformers described here are in the multi-megawatt range. They are rapidly becoming more important and have characteristics and features that are different in many ways from those of normal power transformers. Information about them has been incomplete, scattered and hard to find in the literature.

Design of a simple modular active power electronic transformer
IECON 2014 - 40th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2014The current project was originally initiated by the marine industry, where bulky low-frequency transformers have become a growing problem and the need for a more flexible solution is growing. The active power electronic transformer (APET) is likely to be the most suitable candidate.
