Enhancing Heat Transfer in Mini-Scale Liquid-Cooled Heat Sinks by Flow Oscillation—A Numerical Analysis

open access: yesEnergies
Oscillatory baffled flows (OBFs) provide a combined active and passive means of achieving convective heat transfer enhancement, and previous studies at large scale have demonstrated the heat transfer benefits of OBFs.

Cavity Cooling Using Ultrafast Electrons

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters
We propose a method to cool a thermal photonic state in a cavity by passing electrons through it. Electrons are coherently split into two paths, with one path traversing the cavity, becoming entangled with its photonic state. A sequence of such entanglement interactions can achieve cooling of the cavity: e.g., a twofold reduction in thermal photon ...

Understanding and Optimizing Li Substitution in P2‐Type Sodium Layered Oxides for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores Li‐substituted P2 layered oxides for Na‐ion batteries by crystallographic and electrochemical studies. The effect of lithium on superstructure orderings, on phase transitions during synthesis and electrochemical cycling and on the interplay of O‐ versus TM‐redox is revealed via various advanced techniques, including semi‐simultaneous

Numerical Study of Heat Transfer Enhancement Using Nano-Encapsulated Phase Change (NPC) Slurries in Wavy Microchannels

open access: yesFluids
Researchers have attempted to improve heat transfer in mini/microchannel heat sinks by dispersing nano-encapsulated phase change (NPC) materials in base coolants. While NPC slurries have demonstrated improved heat transfer performance, their applications

Electron diffusion in microbunched electron cooling

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams
Coherent electron cooling is a novel method to cool dense hadron beams on timescales of a few hours. This method uses a copropagating beam of electrons to pick up the density fluctuations within the hadron beam in one straight section and then provides corrective energy kicks to the hadrons in a downstream straight, cooling the beam.

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Single-molecule Electronics: Cooling Individual Vibrational Modes by the Tunneling Current

open access: yes, 2015
Electronic devices composed of single molecules constitute the ultimate limit in the continued downscaling of electronic components. A key challenge for single-molecule electronics is to control the temperature of these junctions. Controlling heating and
