Atrial fibrillation: A review of modifiable risk factors and preventive strategies

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Internal Medicine, 2019
Atrial fibrillation (AF), as the most common cardiac arrhythmia worldwide, is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. Successful therapeutic strategies have been introduced so far, but they are associated with significant costs.

The Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS): Pathophysiology, Diagnosis & Management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS), characterized by orthostatic tachycardia in the absence of orthostatic hypotension, has been the focus of increasing clinical interest over the last 15 years 1. Patients with POTS complain of symptoms of tachycardia,

Challenges and opportunities for large-scale electrophysiology with Neuropixels probes

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Neurobiology, 2018
Electrophysiological methods are the gold standard in neuroscience because they reveal the activity of individual neurons at high temporal resolution and in arbitrary brain locations. Microelectrode arrays based on complementary metal-oxide semiconductor

PEDOT‐Based Eutectogel Electrode Arrays for Enhanced High‐Resolution Electrogastrography: Fabrication, Stability, and Wearable Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we present a high‐density PEDOT eutectogel electrode array for enhanced body surface gastric mapping. Silver electrodes are blade‐coated onto flexible substrates, followed by electrogelation of PEDOT:PSS and the deposition of a PEDOT:LS eutectogel.

Bradycardia in Patients with Subcutaneous Implantable Defibrillators—An Overestimated Problem? Experience from a Large Tertiary Centre and a Review of the Literature

open access: yesReviews in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
Background: The subcutaneous ICD (S-ICD) has developed as a valuable alternative to transvenous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) systems. However there are certain peculiarities which are immanent to the S-ICD and may limit its use.

Challenging Cardiac Electrophysiology [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2010
At the launch of this new Journal in the field of cardiac electrophysiology, Frontiers in Cardiac Electrophysiology, one may wonder which challenges lie ahead in cardiac electrophysiology. Are the textbooks on cardiac electrophysiology complete? In the past century enormous progress has been made in the understanding of cardiac electrophysiology and

Emerging bioelectronics for brain organoid electrophysiology.

open access: yesJournal of Molecular Biology, 2021
Human brain organoids are generated from three-dimensional (3D) cultures of human induced pluripotent stem cells and embryonic stem cells, which partially replicate the development and complexity of the human brain.

Artifact‐Minimizing Ultrathin Transparent Electrodes Fabricated via iCVD for In Vivo Optogenetic Stimulation and Neural Signal Monitoring of Primary Visual Cortex

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present ultrathin flexible transparent electrodes through iCVD‐enabled molecular control of 10 nm gold films on poly(dimethylaminomethylstyrene). In vivo validation demonstrated photoelectric artifact reduction vs. opaque electrodes and preservation of natural neural dynamics.

Catheter Ablation of Tachyarrhythmias in Small Children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
An estimated 80,000-100,000 radiofrequency ablation (RFA) procedures are performed in the United States each year.1 Approximately 1% of these are performed on pediatric patients at centers that contribute data to the Pediatric Radiofrequency Registry.2 ...
