Cognitive and Neuroimaging Divergence Between Juvenile and Adult FUS Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration. Fused in sarcoma (FUS)‐associated juvenile ALS (jALS) represents a distinct and aggressive subgroup with rapid deterioration and poor prognosis.

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Atrial fibrillation: A review of modifiable risk factors and preventive strategies

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Internal Medicine, 2019
Atrial fibrillation (AF), as the most common cardiac arrhythmia worldwide, is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. Successful therapeutic strategies have been introduced so far, but they are associated with significant costs.

Improved circuitry and post-processing for interleaved fast-scan cyclic voltammetry and electrophysiology measurements

open access: yesFrontiers in Signal Processing, 2023
The combination of electrophysiology and electrochemistry acquisition methods using a single carbon fiber microelectrode (CFM) in the brain has enabled more extensive analysis of neurochemical release, neural activity, and animal behavior. Predominantly,

Challenges and opportunities for large-scale electrophysiology with Neuropixels probes

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Neurobiology, 2018
Electrophysiological methods are the gold standard in neuroscience because they reveal the activity of individual neurons at high temporal resolution and in arbitrary brain locations. Microelectrode arrays based on complementary metal-oxide semiconductor

Self‐Healing and Stretchable Synaptic Transistor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐healing stretchable synaptic transistor (3S‐T) is realized using a p‐PVDF‐HFP‐DBP/PDMS‐MPU‐IU bilayer as gate insulator, where dipole‐dipole interaction enhances polarization to achieve a large memory window. Leveraging its neuronal biomimicry, the synaptic transistor demonstrates electrically compatibility with the biological brain. Furthermore,

Calibration of ionic and cellular cardiac electrophysiology models

open access: yesWiley Interdisciplinary Reviews: Systems Biology and Medicine, 2020
Cardiac electrophysiology models are among the most mature and well‐studied mathematical models of biological systems. This maturity is bringing new challenges as models are being used increasingly to make quantitative rather than qualitative predictions.

Mechanical and Electrical Phenotype of hiPSC‐Cardiomyocytes on Fibronectin‐Based Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce fibronectin‐based PEG hydrogels with controlled rigidity to enable the culture of iPSC‐derived cardiomyocytes. These substrates offer an alternative to the current culture of these cells on fibronectin‐coated glass, providing enhanced structural and functional behavior. The system provides a more physiologically relevant platform to assess

An adaptive, preconditioned, electromechanical model for the simulation of cardiac arrhythmias [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this thesis a coupled model of cardiac electromechanical activity is presented, using the finite element method to model both electrophysiology and mechanics within a deforming domain.
