Statistical-mechanical theory of the overall magnetic properties of mesocrystals

open access: yes, 2004
The mesocrystal showing both electrorheological and magnetorheological effects is called electro-magnetorheological (EMR) solids. Prediction of the overall magnetic properties of the EMR solids is a challenging task due to the coexistence of the ...

Vibration isolation with smart fluid dampers: a benchmarking study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The non-linear behaviour of electrorheological (ER) and magnetorheological (MR) dampers makes it difficult to design effective control strategies, and as a consequence a wide range of control systems have been proposed in the literature.

A Reinforcement Learning–Controlled Novel Mode‐Switching Hybrid Mass Damper on a Real Tower

open access: yesStructural Control and Health Monitoring, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This work proposes a novel passive, semiactive and active mode‐switching hybrid mass damper (MSHMD) solution for the control of an actual high‐rise tower. For the mode‐switching control of the considered building system, a reinforcement learning algorithm, Deep Q‐Network (DQN), was implemented.

Periodic Points of Modular Firmly Mappings in the Variable Exponent Sequence Spaces p(·)

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
In this work, we investigate the existence of periodic points of mappings defined on nonconvex domains within the variable exponent sequence spaces ℓp(·).

Multifunctional Position and Stiffness Control of Soft Fluidic Actuators Using Supercooled Liquid

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2025.
This work explores the use of supercooled liquid as a multifunctional working fluid for soft actuators to allow independent control of position and stiffness; the solution is used to both inflate the elastomer chambers while in liquid state and to achieve a dramatic increase in stiffness (up to 13 times) with rapid, reversible crystallization.

A magnetorheological fluid damper for robust vibration control of flexible rotor-bearing systems: A comparison between sliding mode and fuzzy approaches [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical and Applied Vibration and Acoustics, 2017
Squeeze Film Dampers (SFD) are commonly used for passive vibration control of rotor-bearing systems. The Magnetorheological (MR) and Electrorheological (ER) fluids in SFDs give a varying damping characteristic to the bearing that can provide active ...

Evolution of avalanche conducting states in electrorheological liquids [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Charge transport in electrorheological fluids is studied experimentally under strongly nonequlibrium conditions. By injecting an electrical current into a suspension of conducting nanoparticles we are able to initiate a process of self-organization which

New Method to Calculate Electrical Forces Acting on a Sphere in an Electrorheological Fluid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We describe a method to calculate the electrical force acting on a sphere in a suspension of dielectric spheres in a host with a different dielectric constant, under the assumption that a spatially uniform electric field is applied.
