The thermal characteristics of the electroslag process
Metallurgical Transactions, 1973The heat balance of a laboratory electroslag furnace working in quasisteady state is considered in detail. Results are presented for all possible melting mode combinations of direct and alternating (60Hz) current, with live and insulated molds, in air or argon atmospheres. The material studied is AISI 4340 steel, using a slag of CaF2 + 25 wt pct A12O3.

Carbides Control in Electroslag Remelting Process
2021Liquid steel solidification process is the source of the formation of the primary carbides in special steel. This chapter takes electroslag remelting (ESR) as an example to study the control of primary carbide in different ESR solidification processes. It is found that the precipitation of primary carbides can be effectively restrained and the size of ...

Effect of Vibrating Electrode on Inclusion Transport Behavior in the Electroslag Remelting Process
Steel Research InternationalA transient 2D laboratory‐scale integrated model is developed to investigate the effects of vibrating electrode (VE) on the inclusion transport behavior in the electroslag remelting (ESR) process of superalloy.

Electrode temperature gradients in the electroslag process
Metallurgical Transactions, 1971A self-consistent model for electrode temperature gradients in an ESR process has been tested against experimental results. The results indicate that when melting steels in the electrode and mold sizes studied, the electrode material spends approximately 30 sec in the temperature gradient 1000‡C to the melting point.

Formation of metal pool in current-supplying mould at electroslag process
The Paton Welding Journal, 2019Results of experiments were presented on study of the effect of different technological parameters on the formation of a metal pool in electroslag surfacing with a discrete filler either in the form of electrode or no-current large-section billet in ...

TITANIUM MELTING BY THE ELECTROSLAG PROCESS
1969Abstract : The report deals with the melting of titanium by the electroslag or Hopkins process. Details are given on the slag chemistry. Both small and large scale melting experiences are covered. Ingot quality is described in terms of chemistry and workability. Primary problems remaining are hydrogen removal and effect of residual fluorides.

Mathematical Model for Electroslag Remelting Process
Journal of Iron and Steel Research International, 2007A mathematical model, including electromagnetic field equation, fluid flow equation, and temperature field equation, was established for the simulation of the electroslag remelting process. The distribution of temperature field was obtained by solving this model.
