Development of electroslag metallurgy and casting in China [PDF]
The electroslag metallurgy has been developed since 1958. At present, all special steel plants have constructed electroslag metallurgical workshops. There are 86 Electroslag Remelting (ESR) furnaces in these steel plants with annual capacity of 100 000 ...

Factors influencing power consumption and power-saving measures in ESR process [PDF]
Since the USA patent of electroslag remelting (ESR) metallurgy was held by P. K. Hopkins in 1940, the ESR technology has now entered a relatively mature stage after a 70-year history of development.

Effect of the Al2O3 Content in the Slag on the Remelting Behavior of a Bearing Steel
The influence of the Al2O3 content in the remelting slag on chemical reactions and the formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) during electroslag remelting of a bearing steel is focused. In addition, numerical simulations on the NMI‐formation are presented, allowing for a better understanding how the type of NMI can be adjusted.

Phenomena at three-phase electroslag remelting [PDF]
A. Sybir: ORCID 0000-0002-9974-0636 ; ENG: The electroslag remelting (ESR) process is widely used to produce high-quality ingots and billets for high-alloyed steels and alloys. Both the single-phase and three-phase alternating current diagram with bifilar and monofilar connection are in use for heavy ingot manufacturing. The numerical simulation of the

Possibility of the Production of Consumable Electrodes for Electroslag Remelting Using Prereduced Pellets: Part 1 [PDF]
The high cost of the metal produced by electroslag remelting is caused by the significant costs of the manufacture of consumable electrodes. From an economic efficiency standpoint, it is reasonable to further develop the methods of forming consumable ...

Effect of Different Power Supply Modes on Inclusion in 304L Stainless Steel Electroslag Ingot
The use of low frequency or DC (i.e., direct current) operation in the electroslag remelting process may lead to the electrolysis of some oxides in the slag pool, which will adversely affect the cleanliness of the electroslag ingot.
