Mitochondria‐Catalyzed Activation of Anticancer Prodrugs

open access: yesChemCatChem, EarlyView.
Prodrug C is a water soluble, monomeric compound accumulating in mitochondria of cancer cells, where it is activated in the reaction with mitochondrial H2O2. The activation leads to the release of camptothecin that causes cell cycle arrest in G2 phase and cancer cell death.

Palladium‐Catalyzed Allylation of (Hetero)Aryl Fluorosulfates

open access: yesChemCatChem, EarlyView.
The palladium‐catalyzed allylation of (hetero)aryl fluorosulfates is described using either allyl pinacolboronate or potassium allyltrifluoroborate as the allyl source, thereby affording allyl‐(hetero)arene products in synthetically useful isolated yields, including examples featuring potentially reactive chloro groups.

AzUlene‐Fused Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons: Synthesis, Structural, Optical, and Electrochemical Properties of Azuleno[2,1‐a]phenalenones

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
Delving into the synthesis of azulene‐fused polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, this article presents an effective route via Suzuki–Miyaura coupling and Brønsted acid‐mediated cyclization. It details unique optical properties, that is, UV/vis and fluorescence spectra, and electrochemical behavior, highlighting remarkable halochromism and electrochromism ...

Introduction of a Phosphine Group onto the Ferrocene Moiety in Ferrociphenol Opens Access to New Heterobimetallic Complexes with Anticancer Activity

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
Modification of the ferrociphenol structure by a phosphine moiety appended to the originally unsubstituted cyclopentadienyl ring of the ferrocene unit represents a new and useful modification of this potent anticancer agent and opens a way to the preparation of new biologically active derivatives (e.g., phosphonium salts) and, mainly, heterobimetallic ...

Self‐Assembly of Silver Nanoclusters by Cooperative Acetylene Bonding with Mutual Pyridyl Coordination

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
A strategy for the hierarchical self‐assembly of an emissive silver nanocluster into a 3D crystalline lattice via cooperative acetylene bonding in concert with networking silver···pyridyl coordination embodying the hexadentate form is demonstrated. The controlled supramolecular alignment of atomically precise metal nanoclusters is a promising method to

Mono‐Ethyl‐Phosphonates: Functional Group Masking Strategy to Stabilize and Optimize the Pharmacokinetics of Rare Earth Radiochelates

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
Prodrug strategies are used to enhance the pharmacokinetics of small molecule drugs. Here, this approach to rare earth coordination complexes is adopted with applications as diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals: a mono‐ethyl‐phosphonate polyazamacrocyclic chelator for 44Sc and 177Lu reduces blood and bone uptake.
