Internal Ubiquitin Electrophiles for Covalent Trapping and Inhibition of Deubiquitinases

open access: yesChemBioChem, Accepted Article.
The ubiquitin (Ub) system governs vital cellular processes in eukaryotic biology through an intricate network of Ub‐protein interactions. While semisynthetic C‐terminal Ub electrophiles (UbEs) are widely used to study Ub transfer and deubiquitinase (Dub) activity, they are limited to probing the active site while leaving other functionally important ...

Hybridization Probes Featuring a Pyrenylpyridine C‐Nucleoside or Its Palladacycle as a Fluorescent Sensor Moiety

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
When placed in the middle of a double helix as a nucleobase surrogate, pyren‐1‐ylpyridine and its palladacyclic derivative show fluorescence emission sensitive to the identity of the canonical nucleobase opposite to it. Emission of the palladacycle is weaker but the base discrimination stronger, possibly because of Pd(II)‐mediated base pairing.

On the Mechanism of Extractive Electrospray Ionization

Analytical Chemistry, 2010
Extractive electrospray ionization (EESI) is a powerful ambient ionization technique that can provide comprehensive mass spectrometric (MS) information on aerosols, complex liquids, or suspensions without any sample pretreatment. An understanding of the EESI mechanism is critical for defining its range of application, the advantages, and limitations of

Electrospray ionization of volatiles in breath [PDF]

open access: possibleInternational Journal of Mass Spectrometry, 2007
Abstract Recent work by Zenobi and colleagues [H. Chen, A. Wortmann, W. Zhang, R. Zenobi, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 46 (2007) 580] reports that human breath charged by contact with an electrospray (ES) cloud yields many mass peaks of species such as urea, glucose, and other ions, some with molecular weights above 1000 Da.

Unraveling the Mechanism of Electrospray Ionization

Analytical Chemistry, 2012
Electrospray ionization (ESI) generates intact gas-phase ions from analytes in solution for mass spectrometric investigations. ESI can proceed via different mechanisms. Low molecular weight analytes follow the ion evaporation model (IEM), whereas the charged residue model (CRM) applies to large globular species.
