Electrostatic Discharge Characteristics of Cable Discharge Event

Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology, 2019
The characteristics of cable electrostatic discharge event are investigated, which has been proved to be a hazard leading to ESD damage. The electrostatic voltage under operations on cable is measured and the effects of the discharge parameters including electrostatic voltage, cable length, cable type and the distance to the ground on cable discharge ...

Circuit and Numerical Modeling of Electrostatic Discharge Generators

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2005
The paper provides two accurate and efficient models of electrostatic discharge (ESD) generators which permit to reproduce the discharge current in the contact mode taking into account the load effect. The first model is based on a circuit approach and is suitable to be implemented in any commercial circuit simulator.

ElectroStatic Discharge Fault Localization by Laser Probing

Microelectronics Reliability, 2005
This paper deals with the localization of ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD) failure in digital circuits by thermoelastic laser probing. After ESD simulation on a NAND TTL LS circuit, the device was scanned using an interferometric laser probe. In sine wave regime the surface displacement induced by the leakage current was recorded.

Standardization of electrostatic discharge testing

IEEE 1988 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility, 2003
An overview is given of the activities and directions of the various worldwide committees working on the electrostatic discharge (ESD) phenomena. The current technical issues, position, and documentation status are discussed for each committee. The technical aspects of the work done to date, as well as its resolution or discrepancies, are presented. >

Nano electrostatic discharge

IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine, 2009
As nanostructures become smaller, the electrostatic sensitivity increases, leading to new failure mechanisms. In many new electrostatically actuated devices, electric forces lead to the motion of structural elements. Electrostatically actuated devices, magnetic recording devices, photomasks, RF switches, and micromachines have air gaps, which can lead ...

A function for approximating electrostatic discharge currents

2014 22nd International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM), 2014
New function for approximating electrostatic discharge current given in IEC 61000-4-2 Standard is presented in this paper. Its parameters are determined in order to set requirements for the test generator currents. The results are compared to results of other functions from literature. The main advantage is that maximum current values and corresponding

A Contribution to the Electrostatic Theory of a Lightning Discharge

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1960
The electrostatic treatment of the field and charge distribution of a lightning discharge leads to the result that the charge distribution of a lightning stroke is composed of (1) the influence charges induced by the electric field of the thundercloud with the net charge zero, and (2) the net charge, which results from the potential difference of the ...

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)

2014
This chapter discusses the effect of external electrostatic discharge (ESD), or induced field and secondary discharges to a product as a part of EMC compliance testing. It includes the following topics: ESD checklist; typical failure modes; trouble shooting at the test laboratory; low-cost testing tools; and typical fixes.

Electrostatic Discharge Threat

International Journal of Innovative Science and Research Technology
Static electricity, or electrostatic discharge (ESD), presents a significant threat to the performance and reliability of digital electronic circuits. As digital devices become increasingly miniaturized and densely packed, they become more vulnerable to ESD-related failures.
