Electrostatic tip-dielectric sample interaction in electrostatic force microscopy
Electric force microscopy is a local technique for measuring electrical properties of materials. The electrostatic force gradient measurements on dielectric samples are sensitive not only to the initial charge distribution in the sample but also to the ...

Electrostatic Molecular Interaction from X-ray Diffraction Data. I. Development of the Method; Test on Pyrazine [PDF]
Electrostatic interaction is often an important part of the total interaction between molecules. It depends on the electron density distribution in the participating molecules, which can, in principle, be determined by X-ray diffraction methods. A method

Electrostatic Interactions in Asymmetric Organocatalysis
Electrostatic interactions are ubiquitous in catalytic systems and are often decisive in determining reactivity and stereoselectivity. However, a lack of understanding of the fundamental underlying principles has long stymied our ability to fully harness the power of these interactions.

Interaction between electrostatic collisionless shocks generates strong magnetic fields
The head-on collision between electrostatic shocks is studied via multi-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. A strong magnetic field develops after the interaction, which causes the shock velocities to drop significantly.

Stretching DNA: Role of electrostatic interaction [PDF]
The effect of electrostatic interactions on the stretching of DNA is investigated using a simple worm like chain model. In the limit of small force there are large conformational fluctuations which are treated using a self-consistent variational approach.

Competition between chalcogen bond and halogen bond interactions in YOX4:NH3 (Y = S, Se; X = F, Cl, Br) complexes: An ab initio investigation [PDF]
Using ab initio calculations, the geometries, interaction energies and bonding properties of chalcogen bond and halogen bond interactions between YOX4 (Y = S, Se; X = F, Cl, Br) and NH3 molecules are studied. These binary complexes are formed through the

Electrostatic Molecular Interaction from X-ray Diffraction Data. II. Test on Theoretical Pyrazine Data [PDF]
In a previous paper [Moss & Feil (1981). Acta Cryst. A37, 414-421] a method was reported to calculate the electrostatic potential and the electrostatic interaction energy from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data.

The Role of Hydrogen Bonds in Interactions between [PdCl4]2− Dianions in Crystal
[PdCl4]2− dianions are oriented within a crystal in such a way that a Cl of one unit approaches the Pd of another from directly above. Quantum calculations find this interaction to be highly repulsive with a large positive interaction energy.
