Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A Predictive Model for Monolayer‐Selective Metal‐Mediated MoS2 Exfoliation Incorporating Electrostatics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
The metal‐mediated exfoliation (MME) method enables monolayer‐selective exfoliation of van der Waals (vdW) crystals, improving the efficacy of large monolayer production.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Physicochemical Rationale of Matrix Effects Involved in the Response of Hydrogel-Embedded Luminescent Metal Biosensors

open access: yesBiosensors
There is currently a critical need for understanding how the response and activity of whole-cell bacterial reporters positioned in a complex biological or environmental matrix are impacted by the physicochemical properties of their micro-environment ...

Proceedings of the 2016 Electrostatics Joint Conference

open access: yes, 2022
As a charged object passes a grounded metal probe, a bipolar current signal is induced. By integrating the signal over time, the induced charge as a function of time can be obtained.

Electrostatic powder attraction for the development of a novel recoating system for metal powder bed-based additive manufacturing

open access: yes, 2022
Art. 103641, 9 S.The field of electrostatics and electrophotography offers great potential for applying powder layers for powder bed-based additive manufacturing processes, such as powder bed fusion of metals using a laser beam (PBF-LB/M).

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Sustained intra-cartilage delivery of low dose dexamethasone using a cationic carrier for treatment of post traumatic osteoarthritis

open access: yesEuropean Cells & Materials, 2017
Disease-modifying osteoarthritis drugs (DMOADs) should reach their intra-tissue target sites at optimal doses for clinical efficacy. The dense, negatively charged matrix of cartilage poses a major hindrance to the transport of potential therapeutics.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
