Mercury - The Element that Changed the World

open access: yesChemistry-Didactics-Ecology-Metrology
Abstract Mercury is a bright silver liquid with an exceptionally high density of 13.6 g·cm –3 . It has a high surface tension, causing it to form bright shiny globules that roll freely on smooth surfaces. For this reason, it is sometimes called quicksilver. Not surprisingly,

Insights to Industrial Electrocatalytic Sulfide Oxidation: Electrode Fabrication, System Engineering, and High‐Value Product Acquisition

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This review summarizes recent advances in electrocatalytic sulfide oxidation (SOR), focusing on catalyst design strategies, reaction system engineering, and pathways for high‐value product generation. The roles of different reduced sulfur species (S2−, HS−, H2S) under various industrial conditions are highlighted, along with approaches to enhance ...

Facilitating Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Activity in Alkaline Water Electrolysis via Formation of Ni‐Co2P Heterojunction

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Ni‐Co2P synthesized via a co‐sputtering method exhibits enhanced hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity. The formation of a heterojunction between Ni and Co2P plays a crucial role in this enhancement. At the Ni‐Co2P junction, water dissociation is significantly promoted, while the Ni sites facilitate efficient hydrogen evolution.

Hetero‐Polyatomic Phosphorous Anion‐Based High‐Entropy Electrocatalyst for Efficient Bifunctional Water Electrolysis in Anion Exchange Membrane Water Electrolyzers

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This study aims to propose and design a highly active and durable bifunctional hetero‐polyatomic phosphorous anions‐based electrocatalyst (CoFeNiMoTiPi) featuring an amorphous, porous structure synthesized via a simple hierarchical hybrid approach based on a combination of electrochemical deposition.
