Policy Networks and Policy Entrepreneurship in the EU: Explaining Structural Policy Change in Pharmaceutical Innovation Incentives and Health Technology Assessment

open access: yesEuropean Policy Analysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Policy process research has excelled in explaining structural policy change within national settings, but extensions and applications to the EU level have long proven challenging for scholars. Given that the EU is currently experiencing its longest period of Treaty stability since the 1980s—having evolved into a sui generis political system ...

Earthquake and Tsunami NaTech Risk Assessment for Oil Storage Facilities

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Interaction of natural and technological hazards (NaTech) events, such as tsunamis and earthquakes, can affect industrial facilities such as those featuring anchored atmospheric storage tanks. Consequences of natural events on this kind of installation may include the release of hazardous substances, which in turn can lead to industrial ...

Insights into Red Deer Ecology during the Late Epigravettian: New isotopic evidence from Riparo Tagliente (Italian Prealps)

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The transition from the Last Glacial Maximum to the Late Glacial marked a shift from the cold conditions of Greenland Stadial‐2 (GS‐2) to the warmer phases of Greenland Interstadial‐1 (GI‐1), enabling the reoccupation of Alpine regions by Late Palaeolithic hunter‐gatherers.

A Survey of the Management and Development of Captive African Elephant (\u3cem\u3eLoxodonta africana\u3c/em\u3e) Calves: Birth to Three Months of Age [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We used four surveys to collect information about the birth, physical growth, and behavioral development of 12 African elephant calves born in captivity. The management of the birth process and neonatal care involved a variety of standard procedures. All

Astragalus ecomorphology in Quaternary elephantids

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The astragalus plays a fundamental role in the graviportal locomotion of proboscideans, reflecting the biomechanical constraints imposed by large body masses. This study analyses the morphological variability of the astragalus in Quaternary elephantids using linear biometry and 3D geometric morphometrics, incorporating an unpublished ...

Mean-Field Stochastic Control with Elephant Memory in Finite and Infinite Time Horizon

open access: yes, 2019
Our purpose of this paper is to study stochastic control problem for systems driven by mean-field stochastic differential equations with elephant memory, in the sense that the system (like the elephants) never forgets its history.

Rumen methanogenic archaea and their correlation with enteric methane emission in ruminant animals: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Livestock, especially ruminants, are a major source of global methane emissions, primarily produced by methanogenic archaea during enteric fermentation. We performed a systematic review and meta‐analysis to account for factors that could influence the relationship between ruminal methanogenic populations and methane emissions, such ...

Proximity to bait and social interactions influence individual wild pig (Sus scrofa) visitation at bait sites

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Individual wild pig bait site visitation and time to initial detection is primarily influenced by space use (i.e., proximity to bait) and whether wild pigs from other social groups visited before. Specifically, females are less likely to visit a bait site if an adult male visits a site before them.

The Elephant Quantum Walk

open access: yes, 2018
We explore the impact of long-range memory on the properties of a family of quantum walks in a one-dimensional lattice and discrete time, which can be understood as the quantum version of the classical "Elephant Random Walk" non-Markovian process.

A Smile From the Past: Exploring a Fixed Bone Dental Bridge From Eighteenth/Nineteenth Century Porto (Portugal)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper presents the first documented case of a fixed bone dental bridge in Portugal. This item was recovered alongside the remains of a young adult individual of indeterminate sex from the 19th century burial site of the 3rd Order of Our Lady of Carmo in Porto, Portugal.
