Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Residual Properties of Fibre Grids Embedded in Cementitious Matrices after Exposure to Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
The use of fabrics in the form of grids embedded in cementitious matrices—usually termed as textile-reinforced mortar, fiber-reinforced cementitious matrix, or textile-reinforced concrete—demonstrate a more stable performance in elevated temperature ...

Elevated-temperature impact toughness of Mg–(Gd, Y)–Zr alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The Charpy impact results for Mg–10Gd–3Y–0.5Zr and Mg–11Y–5Gd–2Zn–0.5Zr alloys at various temperatures showed that Mg–10Gd–3Y–0.5Zr was more sensitive to temperature. The increase in impact toughness with temperature was related to the blunt crack-tip at

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Integrative morpho-physiological and transcriptomic insights into wheat responses to combined drought, heat, and elevated CO₂ under future climate conditions

open access: yesPlant Stress
Climate change intensifies environmental stressors such as drought and heat, posing a significant threat to crop productivity, while elevated CO2 concentrations generally have a positive effect on photosynthetic performance and, under certain conditions,

Inelastic Material Models of Type 316H for Elevated Temperature Design of Advanced High Temperature Reactors

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
In this paper, the inelastic material models for Type 316H stainless steel, which is one of the principal candidate materials for elevated temperature design of the advanced high temperature reactors (HTRs) pressure retained components, are investigated ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Effect of Elevated Temperature on the Behavior of Amorphous Metallic Fibre-Reinforced Cement and Geopolymer Composites

open access: yesFibers, 2023
To improve the tensile, flexural, and ductility properties of geopolymer composites, amorphous metallic fibres (AMF) are used to reinforce these composites, and the behavior of these composites at elevated temperatures has been assessed in this study ...
