The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Spatial and temporal variability in the snowpack of a High Arctic ice cap: implications for mass-change measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Interpretation of ice mass elevation changes observed by satellite altimetry demands quantification of the proportion of elevation change which is attributable to variations in firn densification.

Morphological parameters causing landslides: A case study of elevation

open access: yesBulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration, 2020
The history of landslide susceptibility maps goes back about 50 years. Hazard and risk maps later followed these maps. Inventory maps provide the source of all these.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Investigation on the Phantom Image Elevation Effect

open access: yes, 2015
Listening tests have been carried out in order to evaluate the phantom image elevation effect depending on horizontal stereophonic base angle. Seven ecologically valid sound sources as well as four noise sources were tested. Subjects judged the perceived

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The cost-effectiveness of an early interventional strategy in non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome based on the RITA 3 trial

open access: yes, 2008
The published version of the aritcle can be found at the link below. Background: Evidence suggests that an early interventional strategy for patients with non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) can improve health outcomes but also increase ...

Seasonality, African Cherry occurrence, and human threats determine the spatial distribution of the endangered restricted range Mount Cameroon Francolin ( Pternistis camerunensis )

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology
The Mount Cameroon Francolin ( Pternistis camerunensis ) is a globally threatened and range restricted bird, which faces natural and human pressures that may alter its distribution and negatively affect its population size.

Microbe Biomass in Relation to Organic Carbon and Clay in Soil

open access: yesSoil Systems, 2020
Soil microbes are key to nutrient cycling and soil formation, yet the impact of soil properties on microbe biomass remains unclear. Using 240 soil cores of 0–15 cm depth, taken at random points across six cattle-grazed pastures on an undulating landscape,
