Factors associated with Partners Elicitation during HIV Index client’s testing in Dar es Salaam Region, Tanzania Catherine Gale Gitige, Gideon Paul Kwesigabo, Onna Duuma Panga, Florence George Samizi, Ahmed Mohamed Abade, Peter Masunga Mbelele, Rogath Saika Kishimba

open access: yesJournal of Interventional Epidemiology and Public Health, 2021
Introduction: Identifying people exposed to HIV is critical towards achieving the UNAIDS 90-90-90 goals for HIV epidemic control. The first 90 in Tanzania is at 53% and yet factors for partner's elicitation to HIV care providers are poorly understood ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Comparative Study of the Nutritional Value, Phytochemicals, and Sensory Quality of Flakes Prepared Using Elicited and Non-Elicited Cowpea Sprout Flours

open access: yesCaraka Tani: Journal of Sustainable Agriculture
Germination without and with elicitation using 50 mM NaCl or 250 ppm Na-alginate generated cowpea sprout flours with the levels of protein, total phenolic compounds (TPC), total flavonoid compounds (TFC), radical scavenging activity (RSA), and ferric ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Expert Elicitation for Latent Growth Curve Models: The Case of Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms Development in Children With Burn Injuries

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2020
Experts provide an alternative source of information to classical data collection methods such as surveys. They can provide additional insight into problems, supplement existing data, or provide insights when classical data collection is troublesome.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

The Elicitation Game: Evaluating Capability Elicitation Techniques

open access: yesCoRR
Capability evaluations are required to understand and regulate AI systems that may be deployed or further developed. Therefore, it is important that evaluations provide an accurate estimation of an AI system's capabilities. However, in numerous cases, previously latent capabilities have been elicited from models, sometimes long after initial release ...

The risk elicitation puzzle [PDF]

open access: yesNature Human Behaviour, 2017
Evidence shows that people's preference for risk changes considerably when measured using different methods, which led us to question whether the common practice of using a single behavioural elicitation method (EM) reflects a valid measure. The present study addresses this question by examining the across-methods consistency of observed risk ...
