Synergistic Enhancement of Antioxidant Activity in Arbutus unedo Leaf Extract by Biological Fluids: Implications for Functional and Nutraceutical Applications

open access: yesBiotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, Volume 73, Issue 5, Page 2189-2201, October 2026.
ABSTRACT This study examined the effect of biological fluids (saliva, blood plasma, and urine) on the antioxidant capacity of an aqueous extract derived from Arbutus unedo leaves. The extract displayed a concentration‐dependent reducing activity in the ferric reducing power assay (IC50 = 292 ± 7.54 µg/mL) and phosphomolybdenum assays (IC50 = 461.67 ± 4.

Exploring the Cosmeceutical Potential of Six Malaysian Indigenous Tropical Fruit Trees: Radical Scavenging, Anti‐Tyrosinase, and Photoprotective Activities Evaluation

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2026.
B. macrophylla leaf ethyl acetate fractionated extract exhibits the highest TPC, very strong radical‐scavenging activities, and the highest SPF value of 28.64 ± 0.51. LC‐MS analysis identifies m‐trigallic acid, cis‐coutaric acid, and ellagic acid, which may contribute to its bioactivities. The present work highlights B.

Antagonistic Effect of Ellagic Acid on Histamine Liberators

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1969
SummaryEllagic acid blocks the blood pressure fall induced by potent histamine liberators; namely, compound 48/80, dextran, and polymyxin B sulfate. The extent of edema produced by histamine liberators was also reduced by previous administration of ellagic acid. It also decreased the lethal effect of 48/80 in mice.

Sustainable Water Remediation Through Degradation of Organic Pollutants Using Green‐Synthesized Cerium and Sulfur‐Doped TiO2 Nanoparticles

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2026.
Cerium‐ and sulfur‐doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles were synthesized adopting a green route using Syzygium cumini L. leaf extract leading to narrowing the band gap (2.0–2.5 eV). Optimization of photocatalysis was achieved by varying parameters including catalyst loading, pH, contact time, reusability study, and chemical stability of target organic ...
