Microbial production of ellagic acid and biodegradation of ellagitannins
In the last years, tannin biodegradation has been the subject of a lot of studies due to its commercial importance and scientific relevance. Tannins are molecules of low biodegradation and represent the main chemical group of natural anti-microbials occurring in the plants.

ABSTRACT Epilepsy is the most disabling neurological disease that affects all economic classes, age groups, regions, and races. Although many antiseizure drugs are approved for epilepsy treatment, they fail to work in about 30%–40% of patients. Thus, there is a great need to identify better pharmacological agents to treat epilepsy.

Ellagic acid inhibits gastric cancer cells by modulating oxidative stress and inducing apoptosis
Objective: To evaluate the anticancer effect of ellagic acid on gastric cancer cells. Methods: MTT assay was used to evaluate the effect of ellagic acid at different concentrations (0.5-100 μg/mL) on gastric cancer AGS cells.

Antagonistic Effect of Ellagic Acid on Histamine Liberators
SummaryEllagic acid blocks the blood pressure fall induced by potent histamine liberators; namely, compound 48/80, dextran, and polymyxin B sulfate. The extent of edema produced by histamine liberators was also reduced by previous administration of ellagic acid. It also decreased the lethal effect of 48/80 in mice.

Preliminary Pharmacology Of Ellagic Acid From Juglans Nigra (black Walnut)
A crystalline compound was isolated from Juglans nigra which by comparison with the known compound was found to be ellagic acid. The ellagic acid injected (i.p.) produced significant sedation, ataxia, potentiated sodium pentobarbital sleeping time, and ...
