Optical centroid ellipses beyond polarization ellipses
Optics LettersPolarization ellipses are well-known as the result of coherent superposition of photonic spin states. As orbital counterparts, in this Letter, we introduce centroid ellipses that are geometrically mapped from optical orbital angular momentum (OAM) superpositions on a modal Poincaré sphere (PS) by coaxial interference.

With the aid of a duality relation originally obtained in the theory of statistical experimental design, an exact terminating algorithm is developed for finding the ellipse of smallest area covering a given plane point set. Some applications and related problems are discussed.

Three new sets of color-matching experiments have been made by three observers binocularly viewing a bipartite field (each half subtending 3°) of a three-primary colorimeter. Each set of color-matching data refers to 28 test colors scattered over the chromaticity gamut provided by the colorimeter.

An incision is described in which the two ends of an elliptical excision are displaced. This can be used in two situations; in the reduction in length of one side of a digit and in the excision of two lesions close together.
