A Radiant-Energy Heater Using an Ellipsoidal Reflector

IBM Journal of Research and Development, 1957
The effectiveness of a radiant-energy heater employing a hemi-ellipsoidal aluminum reflector and an incandescent lamp as radiation source is illustrated by application to the zone-melting of germanium. The factors affecting the design and performance of this heater are discussed.

Properties of the ellipsoidal reflector of the McDonald emissiometer

Infrared Physics, 1984
Abstract The non-linear characteristic of the McDonald emissiometer INTEC Model 2145 is investigated. A reflection model yields a characteristic in very good agreement with the experimental data. The areal distribution of the sensitivity of the measuring head shows no azimuthal dependence.

The non-invasive optical glucometer prototype with ellipsoidal reflectors

2018 IEEE 59th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON), 2018
The work is devoted to analyze the possibilities of creation of non-invasive optical glucometer based on photometry by ellipsoidal reflectors and Raman spectroscopy. The principles of optical glucose meter with ellipsoidal reflectors prototype development were proved. There demonstrates the dependency of Raman scattering signal in the system of optical

Multiband ellipsoidal, reflector feed system for Cassegrain radio telescopes

IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 1998 Digest. Antennas: Gateways to the Global Network. Held in conjunction with: USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting (Cat. No.98CH36, 1998
This paper presents a multiband feed system intended to operate at S, X, K, and millimetre bands for a classical Cassegrain type radio telescope. The feed system consists of an ellipsoidal reflector confocal with the hyperboloidal reflector of the Cassegrain system.

Solar Furnace System Using Tower-Reflector with Ellipsoidal Mirror

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1999
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A new solar furnace system using a stationary elliptic dish and heliostats is proposed. Since the elliptic dish has two focuses (an upper focus and a lower focus) for elliptic geometry, this system has three advantages.

A laser-induced fluorescence biosensor by using ellipsoidal reflector

Optics & Laser Technology, 2007
Abstract A new and compact fluorescence biosensor is constructed. The distinguished feature of this setup is the use of an ellipsoidal reflector as an optical collector of the fluorescence light. A traditional collecting lens with numerical aperture of 0.5 can only collect a few percent of the available signal, while the incorporation of the ...

Realistic implementation of ellipsoidal reflector antennas to produce near‐field focused patterns

Radio Science, 2011
The radiation characteristics of ellipsoidal reflector antennas in the near zone of antenna aperture are investigated using Physical Optics (PO) approximations. This antenna has potential applications in the near‐field communications because its radiation focuses in the near zone.

Characterization of a spark source focused by an ellipsoidal reflector

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2013
Air-coupled ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) provides an ideal solution for rapid scanning of large specimens. Unfortunately, despite decades of research, many challenges remain to render air-coupled ultrasonic methods a broadly effective sensing modality for high impedance materials due to low energy transmission between air and the solids ...

The radiation pattern of a surface loaded ellipsoidal reflector

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1987
The radiation patterns of the focus-fed axially symmetric and loaded ellipsoidal antennas in E - and H -planes are calculated by using the generalized method of geometrical theory of diffraction (GTD). The chosen loads are resistive types which are described in terms of surface impedances.
