Dissolution and Absorption of the Antineoplastic Agent Ellipticine

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1978
Ellipticine, a poorly water-soluble alkaloid, is active in several experimental tumor systems. Marked solubility increases were produced by polyvinylpyrrolidone of varying molecular weights (10,000--160,000) and were optimal (approximately 13 mg/ml at 25 degrees) with polyvinylpyrrolidone mol. wt 10,000. Dissolution of ellipticine--polyvinylpyrrlidone (

An approach to novel ellipticine glycosides

Tetrahedron, 1988
Abstract Reactions of 6-methylellipticine (3a) with the aim of preparing various functionalized derivatives have been studied. A base-(LDA) mediated reaction of 3a with formaldehyde results in a C(11)-hydroxyethyl derivative (3d) , which has been coupled with ribose-, glucose- and galactose derivatives to give, after deprotection ...

Ellipticine analogs: Oxygen and sulfur isosteres

Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, 1969
AbstractOxaellipticine has been synthesized from 1,4‐dimethyldibenzofuran, by converting it to the 2‐aldehyde, forming the Schiff's base with aminoacetaldehyde diethyl acetal, and cyclizing this with 105%superphosphoric acid. Alternatively, tetrahydrodimethyldibenzofuran was formylated mainly at the 3‐position, and the 3‐(2‐nitrovinyl) derivative of ...

A POSSIBLE MECHANISM OF ELLIPTICINE-INDUCED HEMOLYSIS

The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 1976
Ellipticine (E) [5,11-dimethyl-6H-pyrido-(4,3-b)-carbazole, NSC-71795] is an antineoplastic agent which is active against L1210 lymphocytic leukemia in mice. Preclinical toxicologic studies demonstrated hemolysis in dogs and monkeys following intravenous administration of 1.5 mg/kg. This finding prompted this investigation of the mechanism of hemolysis

Intercalative binding of ellipticine to DNA.

Cancer research, 1975
Ellipticine (NSC 71795), a plant alkaloid with antitumor activity, is a weakly basic polycyclic molecule with dimensions similar to those of proflavin. Like proflavin, ellipticine exhibits hypocromic and bathochromic changes in absorption spectrum in the presence of DNA.
