Characteristics of edge pedestal width in JT-60U ELM-free H-mode plasmas

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1998
The edge pedestal widths in ion and electron temperature profiles for H-mode discharges have been measured during an ELM-free phase over a wide range of plasma current of 1-4.5 MA in JT-60U. The pedestal width of the ion temperature indicates a dependence on both inverse poloidal field and edge ion temperature.

DT fusion power production in ELM free H modes in JET

Nuclear Fusion, 1999
Experiments in the ELM free hot ion H?mode regime have been carried out in DT plasmas in JET. Initial experiments undertaken at constant neutral beam (NB) power (~11?MW) demonstrated that core fuelling was dominated by wall/target recycling rather than NB fuelling and made it possible to arrange an optimum core DT mix by adjusting the DT mix in wall ...

Preliminary investigations of equilibrium reconstruction quality during ELMy and ELM-free phases on JET

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2013
On JET, the magnetic topology is normally derived from the code EFIT, which solves the Grad-Shafranov equation with constraints imposed by the available measurements, typically the pick-up coils. Both the code and the measurements are expected to perform worse during ELMs.

Long-lived impurity-ion snakes in the EAST ELM-free H-mode Sawtoothing plasma

Journal of the Korean Physical Society, 2015
Two types of long-lived impurity-ion snakes (LLSs) including the ideal-like kink mode which damps before the large sawtooth crash, termed sawtooth-free LLSs (SF-LLSs) and complex LLSs (C-LLSs), which coexist with compound sawtooth and final damping after sawtooth crash were observed in EAST ELM-free H-mode sawtoothing plasma.

Characterization of turbulence in L- and ELM-free H-mode Wendelstein 7-AS plasmas

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 2003
In this paper, measurements of small scale electron density fluctuations in low confinement (L)-mode and high confinement (H)-mode plasmas obtained by collective scattering of infrared light are presented. A single discharge in the Wendelstein 7-AS (W7-AS) stellarator (Renner H et al 1989 Plasma Phys. Control. Fusion 31 1579) was studied.

Numerical simulation of ELM-free H-mode and hot-ion H-mode JET plasmas

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1996
An empirical model for anomalous transport which contains both Bohm and gyroBohm terms is proposed and tested on the set of JET discharges which include L-, H- and hot-ion mode.

Plasma current dependence of the edge pedestal height in JET ELM-free H-modes

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 2000
Some models for the suppression of turbulence in the L to H transition, suggest that the width of the H-mode edge barrier is either proportional or is of the order of the thermal or the fast-ion poloidal Larmor radius. This would require that the width of the edge barrier should depend on the plasma current. This dependence has been clearly verified at

Theoretical and experimental investigation of ELM-free states in high performance tokamak regimes

2021
We propose a novel interpretation of the Edge Harmonic Oscillation (EHO), which is seen as part of quiescent high-confinement (QH) mode, and compare its predictions to JET data. This new model for the EHOs will improve our ability to predict the QH state.

Evidence of Partial Reconnection during Sawtooth Crash on EAST ELM-Free H-Mode LHCD Plasma

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 2014
Double q = 1 surfaces during a sawtooth crash were identified in EAST ELM-free H-mode LHCD plasma. An off-axis-peaking and enhanced soft-X-ray (SXR) profile due to the presence of high-Z impurities accumulated in the plasma core region is observed after a sawtooth crash.

Expression for the thermal H mode energy confinement time under ELM free conditions in deuterium

Nuclear Fusion, 1993
The design of future tokamaks, which are supposed to reach ignition with the H mode, requires a reliable scaling expression for the H mode energy confinement time. In the present work, an H mode scaling expression for the thermal plasma energy confinement time has been developed by combining data from four existing divertor tokamaks, ASDEX, DIII-D, JET
