ELMO Bumpy Torus program [PDF]
A sequence of programs and related research objectives are described. The achievement of each of these objectives then permits a rational choice of design parameters for successive devices. The first step proposed here, denoted EBT-S, requires increasing the EBT magnetic field to permit microwave heating at 18 and 28 GHz, as compared to the present 10 ...

Ballooning instabilities in the ELMO Bumpy Torus (EBT) [PDF]
The macroscopic stability of a model ELMO Bumpy Torus (EBT) plasma taking into account variations of the field curvature along the magnetic field is numerically investigated in the long-thin limit. When the compression term has a pole in the ring region the background ballooning mode becomes stable for any value of the hot electron beta because of ...

ELMO Bumpy Torus data base [PDF]
This document describes a set of computer programs developed to facilitate storage and retrieval of data generated by the ELMO Bumpy Torus (EBT) experiment. The data is stored in a collection of files which contain either raw or analyzed data from diagnostics connected to the experiment.

ELMO Bumpy Torus Reactor (EBTR) reference design [PDF]
The goal of the ELMO Bumpy Torus Reactor (EBTR) study is the evaluation of the EBT confinement concept as the basis for development of a commercial fusion power reactor. A multidisciplinary, self-consistent treatment of EBT reactor scaling and design has been completed and a reference design (EBTR-48) has been developed.

Surprise and the singular plural
Abstract Bodymind diversity, disability scholars argue, contributes to community and to ideals of human flourishing. Phenomenologists like Nancy and Arendt, meanwhile, foreground our human pluralism. But what does it mean to inhabit (and invent) a plural “we” across significant bodily difference? And why is the experience of surprise important to it? A

Kinetic transport model for the ELMO Bumpy Torus [PDF]
A bounce-averaged drift kinetic equation is solved for the toroidal plasma in the ELMO Bumpy Torus (EBT). The distribution function is assumed isotropic in pitch angle and calculated as a function of radius and speed using finite differences on a two-dimensional grid. A Fokker-Planck representation of the collision operator includes Coulomb, microwave,

Plasma simulation and modeling for ELMO bumpy torus reactor [PDF]
A simple model (time-dependent deuterium-tritium point model) has been formulated to assess the energy balance in an ELMO Bumpy Torus Reactor (EBTR) plasma. The effects of the different scaling assumptions on EBTR performance and operating point have been analyzed. Although in the present EBT device (EBT-I) plasma transport seems to be governed largely

ELMO Bumpy Torus. [Survey of research program]
The ELMO Bumpy Torus (EBT) program of experiment, theory, and reactor studies has been a remarkably successful one. In the five years since EBT-I began operating, work has progressed from a demonstration of macrostability to an increasingly detailed understanding of transport properties. Collisionless scaling (tau/sub E/ increases with temperature) has
