Study of DIII-D tungsten erosion processes by using a carbon–tungsten mixed material model

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2019
The tungsten erosion process for an H-mode discharge from the DIII-D Metal Rings Campaign is modeled using OEDGE and TRIM.SP. The OEDGE code is employed to calculate tungsten erosion between edge-localized modes (ELMs).

μG2-ELM: An upgraded implementation of μ G-ELM

open access: yesNeurocomputing, 2016
µG-ELM is a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm which looks for the best (in terms of the MSE) and most compact artificial neural network using the ELM methodology. In this work we present the µG2-ELM, an upgraded version of µG-ELM, previously presented by the authors. The upgrading is based on three key elements: a specifically designed approach for

ETV2 Mediated Differentiation of Human Pluripotent Stem Cells Results in Functional Endothelial Cells for Engineering Advanced Vascularized Microphysiological Models

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A robust method to generate functional human iPSC‐derived endothelial cells using inducible ETV2 expression. These cells self‐organize into stable, lumenized microvascular networks within microfluidic chips, surpassing conventional differentiation methods.

‘Pioneer’ Elm

open access: yesHortScience, 1984
Abstract The American elm, Ulmus americana L., has proven itself to be particularly well adapted to urban environments. Unfortunately, Dutch elm disease, caused by the fungus Ceratocystis ulmi (Buism.) C. Moreau, has limited use of this species. The ‘Pioneer’ hybrid elm is a product of a USDA program to develop disease resistant elm clones which can be

Medical Fabrics with Non‐Antibiotic, Supramolecular Antimicrobial Coatings: A Preventive Approach to Combat Biofilm Formation and Bacterial Dissemination

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an antibiotic‐free strategy using medical fabrics coated with supramolecular assemblies of polyarginine and hyaluronic acid. These coatings showed strong antimicrobial and anti‐biofilm activity in vitro and in vivo, achieving major bacterial load reductions, including against MRSA.

Taming the Immiscibility of Gold, Iron, and Boron to Craft Chemodegradable Nanoparticles for Multimodal Imaging and Radiotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Over half of cancer patients undergo radiotherapy. Laser ablation enabled the synthesis of immiscible Au‐Fe‐B nanoparticles designed as degradable bimodal radiosensitizers for X‐ray radiotherapy (XRT), boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), and bimodal imaging for X‐ray computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These nanosensitizers
