Assessment of soil radon-driven natural radioactivity and associated radiation dose in Central-Eastern regions of Morocco using AlphaGUARD

open access: yesNuclear Analysis
This study examines spatial variations in soil radon (222Rn) levels across four zones of the Central-Eastern parts of Morocco (Tikajouine, Imilchil, Itzer, and Aït Ayach). The AlphaGUARD PQ2000 PRO instrument was employed to evaluate radon concentration,

β‐Catenin/c‐Myc Axis Modulates Autophagy Response to Different Ammonia Concentrations

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2025.
Ammonia, detoxified by the liver into urea and glutamine, impacts autophagy differently at varying levels. Low ammonia activates autophagy via c‐Myc and β‐catenin, while high levels suppress it. Using Huh7 cells and Spf‐ash mice, c‐Myc's role in cytoprotective autophagy is revealed, offering insights into hyperammonemia and potential therapeutic ...

EXPERIMENTS ON THE AIR PERMEABILITY OF FOREST SOILS BY RADIUM-EMANATION METHOD

open access: yes, 1966
A radium-emanation method was developed for measuring the gas diffusion coefficient D in soils of differing structure and colloidal properties. The method was quick and simple, and could be carried out under natural, undisturbed soil conditions ...

Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Building and characterisation of a radon emanation source using a historical watch painted with radioluminescent paint containing radium

open access: yes
Conducting experiments with 222Rn not always requires a radon emanation source traceable to primary standards, often it is sufficient to use a well characterised radium source.

Nonthermal Plasma Reduction of Nickel Oxide Layers by Atmospheric Pressure Dielectric Barrier Discharge in Argon/Hydrogen

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores the reduction of nickel oxide layers using dielectric barrier discharge plasma in an argon–hydrogen atmosphere. The results reveal a strong temperature dependence, enabling complete reduction of thick oxide layers at 200°C within seconds.

PHYSICAL PARAMETERS AFFECTING THE EMANATION OF RADON-222 FROM COAL ASH

open access: yes, 1982
The Rn-222 emanation coefficients for coal ash and parameters which affected them were measured. Samples of ash from both stoker fired and pulverized coal fired boilers were obtained. The stoker ash samples were mechanically separated into size fractions.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Dynamic friction coefficient measurement of granular fertiliser particles

open access: yes, 2006
Theoretically, in the absence of friction, when a particle is sliding along a straight radial vane, mounted on a flat disc which is spinning at a constant rotational velocity, its radial and tangential velocity are equal at any point along the vane.
