An exploration of the effect of Belt and Road Initiative on carbon emissions embodied in China’s manufacturing industry exports

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study evaluates the impact of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on direct and indirect carbon emissions from China’s manufacturing goods production and trade processes with 64 countries along the belt and road (B&R).

3D Printing Innovations in Polymeric Porous and Patterned Architecture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polymeric foams occupy a unique structural space between dense solids and open networks, where engineered void fraction governs mechanical compliance, thermal resistance, and mass transport. Additive manufacturing now enables precise spatial control over cellular architecture, unlocking designer foam structures across applications spanning crash ...

Spatiotemporal Drug Delivery via a Neonatal Spinal Cord ECM Hydrogel for Biomimetic Microenvironment Remodeling After Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A biomimetic hydrogel derived from neonatal spinal cord ECM (DNSCM) delivers LAMB2 protein and ISP peptide to remodel the inhibitory injury microenvironment. The system sustains drug release, upregulates pro‐regenerative LAMB2, downregulates inhibitory CSPG, and promotes axonal regeneration.

A synthesis of carbon in international trade [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2012
In a globalised world, the transfer of carbon between regions, either physically or embodied in production, represents a substantial fraction of global carbon emissions. The resulting emission transfers are important for balancing regional carbon budgets

Nanoengineered Binetworks in Multifunctional Anionic Block Polymer Mesoblends for Improved Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoblends consist of a nanostructured polymer into which a second polymer is imbibed with a selective solvent. In this work, a solvent‐templatable pentablock terpolymer possessing a sulfonated midblock is modified with a hydrophilic polymer that is photocrosslinked in situ, yielding a hierarchical binetwork.

Magnetic‐Field Control of Surface States in CoFe2O4 Thin Films for Nitrate Electroreduction to Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic‐field‐assisted CVD of heterometallic single‐source precursors modulates thin‐film surface electronic structure and interfacial charge transfer. Field‐grown (Cobalt ferrite‐1T)CF‐1T films exhibit stabilized electronic states, lower kinetic barriers, and markedly enhanced nitrate‐to‐ammonia electrocatalysis versus (Cobalt ferrite‐0T) CF‐0T ...

Carbon and cost hotspots : an embodied carbon management approach during early stages of design

open access: yes, 2018
The need for embodied carbon mitigation mechanisms is well recognised by research scholars and government bodies of the many developed nations. The potential for mitigation is in fact high during early stages of designs.

Multimodal Perception and Machine Learning‐Empowered Human Machine Interfaces With Double‐Network Hydrogel Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work develops polyacrylamide‐alginate (PAM‐Alg) double‐network hydrogel fibers for multimodal perception and intelligent human‐machine interfaces. The covalent‐ionic network provides high strength, toughness, and stable conductivity. Easily woven into wearables and integrated with soft robots, the fibers enable object and temperature recognitions ...
