The regional evolution of a dryland fluvio‐aeolian and lacustrine succession in response to allocyclic forcing: insights from the Early Permian Cutler Group, Utah, USA

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Preserved allocyclic signatures in the rock record often reflect basin‐scale climatic variability and serve as key proxies for correlating ancient dryland successions. The notion of climate cyclicity, however, remains largely untested on regionally constrained, outcrop‐calibrated studies.

Ischaemic strokes in patients with pulmonary arteriovenous malformations and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia: associations with iron deficiency and platelets. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundPulmonary first pass filtration of particles marginally exceeding ∼7 µm (the size of a red blood cell) is used routinely in diagnostics, and allows cellular aggregates forming or entering the circulation in the preceding cardiac cycle to lodge ...

Pediatric acute paradoxical cerebral embolism with pulmonary embolism caused by extremely small patent foramen ovale

open access: yesOpen Medicine, 2018
Herein, we report a pediatric case of acute paradoxical cerebral embolism complicated by serious acute pulmonary embolism that was caused by an extremely small patent foramen ovale (PFO). The patient had no medical history suggestive of any other reason.

Modelling the effect of varying metabolic rate and cardiac output on estimated tissue and blood O2 and CO2 levels in an extreme deep‐diver, the goose‐beaked whale (Ziphius cavirostris)

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract High‐resolution movement data from Cuvier's beaked, or goose‐beaked whale (Ziphius cavirostris, hereafter Ziphius, n = 8) tag deployments (4.1–19.2 days) were used to estimate blood and tissue O2 and CO2 levels. Acceleration and magnetometry data were used to estimate the locomotion cost (LC) from the relationship between activity and the O2 ...

Acute ECG ST-segment elevation mimicking myocardial infarction in a patient with pulmonary embolism

open access: yesCardiovascular Ultrasound, 2010
Pulmonary embolism is a common cardiovascular emergency, but it is still often misdiagnosed due to its unspecific clinical symptoms. Elevated troponin concentrations are associated with greater morbidity and mortality in patients with pulmonary embolism.

Concomitant pulmonary embolism and myocardial infarction due to paradoxical embolism across a patent foramen ovale: a case report

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal: Case Reports, 2017
Concomitant acute myocardial infarction (MI) and pulmonary embolism (PE) is exceedingly rare. However, establishing the diagnosis early is essential, since delay in treating the patient may lead to a potential fatal outcome.

Cellular and molecular cross‐talk in atrial fibrillation: The role of non‐cardiomyocytes in creating an arrhythmogenic substrate

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Illustration of cellular and molecular cross‐talk in atrial fibrillation. Left: a schematic of cardiac tissue showing cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, adipocytes, inflammatory cells and the coagulation system. Right: direct and indirect cross‐talk between different cell types, with the impact of direct cross‐talk on action potential (

Haemodynamic‐energetic mechanism of sudden cardiac death in severe aortic stenosis: A modelling study

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend A sudden decrease in total peripheral resistance (TPR), as observed during vasovagal syncope, leads to a reduction in aortic systolic pressure (AO pressure) and afterload. In healthy individuals, the consequent decrease in left ventricular systolic pressure (LV pressure) lowers stroke work and myocardial energy expenditure.

Adjunctive Thrombolytics After Successful Endovascular Reperfusion: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 98, Issue 6, Page 1299-1314, December 2025.
Objective The efficacy and safety of intra‐arterial thrombolysis (IAT) as an adjunct to endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in large vessel occlusion strokes (LVOS) remain uncertain, with recent randomized controlled trials (RCTs) yielding conflicting results.

Interaction between proatherosclerotic factors and right-to-left shunt on the risk of cryptogenic stroke: the Italian Project on Stroke in Young Adults. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Objective: To explore the interaction effects between cardiac interatrial right-to-left shunt (RLS) and proatherosclerotic factors on the risk of brain ischaemia. Design: Multicentre Italian caseecontrol study. Setting: University hospitals. Participants:
