Splenic artery steal syndrome in patients with orthotopic liver transplant: Where to embolize the splenic artery?

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
Purpose This study compared proximal and distal embolization of the splenic artery (SA) in patients with splenic artery steal syndrome (SAS) after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) regarding post interventional changes of liver function to identify ...

Temperature sensitive nanogels for real-time imaging during transcatheter arterial embolization

open access: yesDesigned Monomers and Polymers, 2023
Several vascular embolization materials are commonly used in clinical practice, however, having application defects of varying degrees, such as poor intraoperative imaging and easy recanalization of embolized blood vessels, they are challenging for ...

Trends in Utilization of Preoperative Embolization for Spinal Metastases: A Study of the National Inpatient Sample 2005–2017 [PDF]

open access: yesNeurointervention, 2021
Purpose While previous studies have suggested that preoperative embolization of hypervascular spinal metastases may alleviate intraoperative blood loss and improve resectability, trends and driving factors for choosing this approach have not been ...

Effectiveness of Preradiosurgical Embolization with NBCA for Arteriovenous Malformations - Retrospective Outcome Analysis in a Japanese Registry of 73 Patients (J-REAL study) [PDF]

open access: yesNeurointervention, 2017
PurposeRecent reports have posed doubts about the effect of preradiosurgical embolization in brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM) because it makes the planning of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) difficult and has the risk of recanalization out of the ...

Xylem embolism and bubble formation during freezing suggest complex dynamics of pressure-tension in Betula pendula stems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Freeze-thaw-induced embolism is a key limiting factor for perennial plants in frost-exposed environments. Gas bubbles are formed during freezing and expand during thawing resulting in xylem embolism. However, when water freezes, its volume increases by 9%, generating local pressures, which can affect the formation of bubbles.
