Transcatheter Therapeutic Arterial Embolization
Radiology, 1976Transcatheter therapeutic arterial embolization was employed in 11 patients with gastrointestinal hemorrhage and 8 patients with bleeding from other sites. Hemorrhage was stopped successfully in all of the patients with gastrointestinal bleeding and 6 of the 7 patients with active bleeding from other sites.

Therapeutic Transcatheter Arterial Embolization
Radiology, 1974The authors present two cases of therapeutic embolization, utilizing two different foreign materials. In a case of massive gastrointestinal bleeding from a gastric ulcer which had eroded the splenic artery, Gelfoam (gelatin) plugs injected through a gray Kifa catheter resulted in immediate cessation of bleeding. In the other case, rupture of the suture

Therapeutic embolization of polycystic kidneys
International Urology and Nephrology, 1981In two patients with end-stage polycystic kidneys suffering from severe and protracted hematuria recourse was made to therapeutic renal embolization. Hematuria stopped immediately, never to appear again, whilst recanalization of the arterial renal circulation was observed later.

Therapeutic Embolization with Detachable Balloons
Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, 1980In our first 18 months' clinical experience with embolization in the chest and abdomen using detachable balloons, successful results were obtained in 34 of 38 patients. One and 2-mm detachable silicone balloons, which can occlude vessels 4--8 mm in diameter, were employed.

Unexpected complications following therapeutic embolization
Neuroradiology, 1978Unexpected complications may follow therapeutic embolization, even though no apparent technical errors have occurred. This report includes four cases of facial palsy following middle meningeal artery embolization, one case of aspiration pneumonia following glomus tumor embolization, and a case of pulmonary embolization following embolization of a ...

Animal Models for Therapeutic Embolization
CardioVascular and Interventional Radiology, 2003Embolization techniques have been performed in different animals to accumulate basic data before a clinical trial. Choosing the right embolization model for a specific project is critical. However, there are several variables when defining the best model for embolization research such as the size of the animal to be used, the target organs, the route ...

Therapeutic embolization of juvenile angiofibroma
American Journal of Roentgenology, 1979Therapeutic embolization of juvenile angiofibromas was performed in 15 boys, aged 12--18 years, 11 of whom subsequently underwent surgery. Intraoperative blood loss was reduced from an average of 2,400 ml in nonembolized patients to 800 ml after embolization. Angiography is of value to confirm the diagnosis prior to excision and to delineate the extent

Pulsatile Tinnitus and Therapeutic Embolization
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1979Fifteen patients with disabling pulse-synchronous tinnitus were investigated with super-selective angiography demonstrating an arteriovenous malformation in 8 cases, chemodectoma of the jugular bulb in 3, and a local arterial stenosis in one case. In 12 of these cases the murmur could be registered objectively, while in the 3 cases with a negative ...

Therapeutic Arterial Embolization in Trauma
The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1979Use of therapeutic arterial embolization (TAE) in the traumatized patient can achieve rapid control of hemorrhage and obviate the need for immediate surgery on poor-risk patients or in high-risk areas of the body. The techniques of embolization, its risks, and complications are discussed in light of the authors' experience, and a review of recent ...

Pulmonary thromboembolism is a widespread problem and is an important cause of death in patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions. There have been few significant advances in the understanding of the aetiology beyond additional evidence confirming the importance of Virchow's triad. An impressive list of epidemiological associations has
