Fracture of the Passive Film on Reinforcing Steel in Concrete Under Mechanical Loading
Bending load induces a flexural crack in reinforced concrete specimen. Above the critical load inducing crack, a macro cell corrosion current is recorded by steel coupons embedded in the concrete. The macro cell current corresponds to the rupture of the passive film. ABSTRACT This study investigates the fracture of the passive film on reinforcing steel

Environment-induced embrittlement: Stress corrosion cracking and metal-induced embrittlement; Environmental embrittlement of iron aluminide alloys [PDF]
This research program has included two thrusts. The first addressed environment-induced embrittlement in a parallel study of stress corrosion cracking and metal-induced embrittlement. This work has examined (1) mechanical properties as influenced by embrittling environments, (2) fractography and crystallography or transgranular cracking, (3) the ...

Hydrogen‐enhanced SCC of WAAM Inconel 625 in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. Hydrogen charging reduces passive film stability (lower corrosion potential) and promotes pitting at Laves phase/matrix interfaces. Stress corrosion cracks propagate along Laves‐rich regions, leading to quasi‐cleavage brittle fracture.
