Effect of the extract of the Plectranthus barbatus (Andr.) Benth in the reproductive performance of Rattus novergicus (Berkenhout, 1769) [PDF]

open access: yesBiotemas, 2007
The supposed use of the extract from Plectranthus barbatus for abortive purposes motivated this investigation about the possible toxic effects of ‘False-boldo’ on the embryos and on the offspring of female Wistar rats. Twenty-seven females and nine males,

Both Chromosome Decondensation and Condensation Are Dependent on DNA Replication in C.elegans Embryos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
During cell division, chromatin alternates between a condensed state to facilitate chromosome segregation and a decondensed form when DNA replicates.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Ensoulment and IVF Embryos

open access: yes, 1987
This paper examines the metaphysical question of 'ensoulment' in relation to the theory, put forward in an earlier paper, that human life begins when the newly formed body organs and systems of the embryo begin to function as an organised whole, at which

Consent agreements for cryopreserved embryos : the case for choice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Under current UK law, an embryo cannot be transferred to a woman’s uterus without the consent of both of its genetic parents, that is both of the people from whose gametes the embryo was created.

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Negotiating Meanings About Embryos in Australia: From Potential Humans to Prohibited Substances

open access: yes, 2011
In the late 1990s, human embryonic stem-cell research became a highly emotional and politicized debate. In 2001, the United States announced a ban on all federal funding for research involving human embryos, and other countries around the world were ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.
