This paper discusses the theory of emergency braking as it applies to the 1986 Skid Test conducted by the Georgia Public Safety Training Center. In this paper, the mathematical equation for emergency braking is developed in terms of the drag forces which bring a vehicle to rest. This equation is reduced to its statistically significant elements.

Circling the Archetype: Tensions Limiting the Transformation to a Circular Economy
ABSTRACT This research examines key tensions and the archetypal paradox that prevent the transformation to a circular economy (CE) across individual, organizational, and systems levels, problematizing CE assumptions. Tension manifestations are analyzed using a qualitative case study across eight diverse industries and geographies.

Carbon emission assessment of tunnel infrastructures: From construction to operation
This study develops a lifecycle carbon accounting framework for tunnel infrastructures, covering design, construction, operation, maintenance, and dismantling. Applied to a subsea tunnel case, the framework reveals the carbon emission distribution among four typical tunnel types and highlights potential carbon offset methods for low‐carbon tunnel ...

How to Brake? Ethical Emergency Braking with Deep Reinforcement Learning
Connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) have the potential to enhance driving safety, for example by enabling safe vehicle following and more efficient traffic scheduling. For such future deployments, safety requirements should be addressed, where the primary such are avoidance of vehicle collisions and substantial mitigating of harm when collisions ...
