Leading conversations: Communication behaviours of emergent leaders in virtual teams

open access: yes, 2005
Virtual teams and their leaders are key players in global organisations. Using teams of workers dispersed temporally and geographically has changed the way people work in groups and has redefined the nature of teamwork.

Machine Learning for Emergent Middleware [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
International audienceHighly dynamic and heterogeneous distributed systems are challenging today's middleware technologies. Existing middleware paradigms are unable to deliver on their most central promise, which is offering interoperability.

How Can Middle-of-the-Chain Organizations Improve Farmer Livelihoods and Reduce Food Insecurity?

open access: yesAgriculture
In the United States, small and beginning (SB) farmers depend on institutional and elite customers to increase their farm income, whereas food-insecure communities lack alternatives for accessing and utilizing healthy local foods. This study examined two

Emerging viruses – is there an emerging pattern? [PDF]

open access: yesThe Biochemist, 2017
The Ebola outbreak in West Africa in 2014 and the spread of Zika across the Americas in 2016 have thrust previously obscure viruses into the media spotlight. But is something new really going on? What can we expect in future? Is there anything we can do?

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Deferred Action: Theoretical model of process architecture design for emergent business processes

open access: yes, 2007
E-Business modelling and ebusiness systems development assumes fixed company resources, structures, and business processes. Empirical and theoretical evidence suggests that company resources and structures are emergent rather than fixed.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

A Framework for the Description and Representation of Emergent Shapes

open access: yes, 1995
This paper is concerned with the computational modelling of emergent shapes in design. The categorisation of emergent shapes, and the development of a framework capable of modelling different types of emergent shapes are of particular interest.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Curbing domestic violence: instantiating C-K theory with formal concept analysis and emergent self organizing maps. [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we propose a human-centered process for knowledge discovery from unstructured text that makes use of Formal Concept Analysis and Emergent Self Organizing Maps.
