The Virgin Island Model [PDF]

open access: yesElectron. J. Probab 14 (2009), no 39, 1117-1161, 2008
A continuous mass population model with local competition is constructed where every emigrant colonizes an unpopulated island. The population founded by an emigrant is modeled as excursion from zero of an one-dimensional diffusion. With this excursion measure, we construct a process which we call Virgin Island Model.

Two-sided immigration, emigration and symmetry properties of self-similar interval partition evolutions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Forman et al. (2020+) constructed $(\alpha,\theta)$-interval partition evolutions for $\alpha\in(0,1)$ and $\theta\ge 0$, in which the total sums of interval lengths ("total mass") evolve as squared Bessel processes of dimension $2\theta$, where $\theta\ge 0$ acts as an immigration parameter.

A Life in Statistical Mechanics. Part 1: From Chedar in Taceva, to Yeshiva University in New York [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017

Highly Educated, New Foreign Workers' Acculturation and Coping Mechanisms in a Large Korean Company

open access: yesHuman Resource Development Quarterly, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The need for skilled foreign workers in South Korea (Korea hereafter) has grown substantially due Korea's changing workforce demographics, skill mismatch, transformation of business portfolios, and the pursuit of globalized business. As a result, large Korean companies have begun to recruit highly educated foreign workers for global talent ...

Asymptotic regimes for the partition into colonies of a branching process with emigration [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
We consider a spatial branching process with emigration in which children either remain at the same site as their parents or migrate to new locations and then found their own colonies. We are interested in asymptotics of the partition of the total population into colonies for large populations with rare migrations.

Migration responses of immigrants in Spain during the Great Recession

open access: yesDemographic Research, 2018
Objective: We aim to describe the impact of the crisis on the intensity and demographic profile of internal migration and different forms of international emigration. Methods: Using microdata from the Residential Variation Statistics for 2006‒2013, we

Adult brain cancer incidence patterns: A comparative study between Japan and Japanese Americans

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? The risk factors for brain tumors remain largely unknown. Building on the legacy of migration studies, this study compared the incidence of adult malignant brain and central nervous system tumors in Japan and among Japanese Americans and other ethnic populations in the United States.

Critical Controlled Branching Processes and Their Relatives [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
This survey aims at collecting and presenting results for one-type, discrete time branching processes with random control functions. In particular, the subclass of critical migration processes with different regimes of immigration and emigration is reviewed in detail.
