These studies were desgned to detect geographic variation in emigration behavior, at various temperatures, of newly collected wild strains ofDrosophila melanogaster. Natural populations from various geographic regions showed three basic emigration response patterns to temperature: linear, threshold, and optimum-temperature response types.

To test several hypotheses concerning the optimal life-history characteristics expected to be associated with individuals encountering primarily high or low population density, we scored flying behavior, development time, fecundity, and competitive ability in two populations of flour beetles (Tribolium castaneum) differentiated with respect to ...

An investigation was carried out on 28 Misaki young female feral horses living in Misaki Island, Japan to explore the behavioral patterns, and proximate causes of emigration of these females when they left their natal band or mothers. All young females emigrated between 1 and 4 years of age.

I examined the vigilance behavior of male Cebus capucinus residing in four groups in Santa Rosa Park, Costa Rica. One male emigrated from each of three study groups, providing ideal experimental conditions for examining the effect of coresident males on male vigilance behavior (social and non-social).

Emigration Behavior of Clark's Nutcracker
The Condor, 1981-Eruptive movements of the Clark's Nutcracker (Nucifraga columbiana) were observed during the late summer and fall of 1977, 1978 and 1979 in northern Utah and adjacent states. Over 2,000 emigrating nutcrackers were seen during these periods. Eruptions began in mid to late August, about the time nutcrackers began foraging on developing conifer cones ...

Sexual Differences for Emigration Behavior in Natural Populations of Drosophila melanogaster
Behavior Genetics, 2002Evolutionary biology considers migration behavior as central in genetic structure of populations and speciation. Here we report on emigration patterns in Drosophila melanogaster behavior under laboratory conditions. For this study, a special apparatus was employed that includes a few important changes in its design and size compared with other known ...

Emigration response behavior: III. Genetic variability in a natural population ofDrosophila busckii
Behavior Genetics, 1986Eight isofemale lines ofDrosophila busckii were tested for emigration response behavior, using a modification of the Sakai system which permitted an analysis of two environmental variables, height and light. There was significant variation in the behavior of the isofemale lines in the four environmental configurations. Although there was no main effect

The Emigration of Pro-social Behaviors: A Comparative Analysis of Colombian and US Latter-day Saints
VOLUNTAS: International Journal of Voluntary and Nonprofit Organizations, 2020Scholars have studied the differences in pro-social behaviors among countries for over 50 years. Religious participation in the USA is one of the factors that lead to comparatively higher rates of giving and volunteering. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is known for the highest rates of pro-social behaviors in the USA, but do members of

Aggressive Behavior in Juvenile Coho Salmon as a Cause of Emigration
Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1962Large numbers of coho fry (called nomads) move downstream from shortly after emergence through early fall. These fry are smaller than residual coho. Study of behavior showed coho to be aggressive and territorial or hierarchical. Nomadic coho placed in stream aquaria barren of resident fish tended to remain in the aquaria rather than continuing ...
