Evolution of emission line galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
NOTE: Text or symbols not renderable in plain ASCII are indicated by [...]. Abstract is included in .pdf document. This thesis compares two samples of emission line galaxies, selected on the basis of the strength of their [0111]λλ4959, 5007 and/or Hβ λ4861 emission lines.

Emission-line variability in Seyfert galaxies

Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1988
Observations and theory of emission-line variability in Seyfert galaxies are reviewed in the context of standard photoionization models of the emission-line regions. Expected time scales for variability and systematic effects which can give misleading results are discussed. Published observations of emission-line variability are summarized.

Surface brightness of galaxies with emission lines

Astrophysics, 1976
A statistical investigation was made of the distribution of the mean surface brightnesses of galaxies with emission lines. The relative number of these galaxies decreases strongly with decreasing mean surface brightness. A similar effect is observed for compact Zwicky galaxies.

The Spatial Distribution of Emission-Line Galaxies

1998
Galaxy redshift surveys carried out over the last decade have revealed that bright galaxies are organized in sheets and filaments enclosing large empty regions, the voids, which occupy more than 80 per cent of the whole space. Still under debate is the question whether all galaxies follow this non-uniform distribution or if less luminous galaxies are ...

Emission-line galaxies in the cluster A 634

Astrophysics, 1984
The results are given of an investigation of the cluster of galaxies A 634. The members of the cluster include 35 emission-line galaxies. The mean recession velocity of the cluster is 8010 km/sec and the velocity dispersion 309 km/sec. A lower limit for the relative number of emission-line galaxies brighter than 15 /sup m./ 7 in A 634 is estimated at 0.

Broad emission lines in active galaxies

Vistas in Astronomy, 1988
